Scene 1:
Place: Lakeview Towers Hotel
Location: Hotel suite.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
[Simon and Lily are lying on the bed, about to make love.]
>> Simon: Lily -- Lily -
>> Lily: What, what? What? What's wrong?
>> Simon: Are you absolutely certain you want to do this?
>> Lily: Don't ask me to think. Not now.
>> Simon: You either think now, or after it's too late. I just don't want you to have any regrets.
>> Lily: I won't.
>> Simon: Okay, ask yourself -- listen. What happens to Holden if we do this?
>> Lily: What does it matter? He wasn't thinking about me when he slept with Rose.
>> Simon: Wait -- Lily -- I am painfully certain I'm going to hate myself for saying this, but I can't do this.
Scene 2:
Location: Hotel suite.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: I thought this is what we wanted.
>> Simon: It is. I want this, I want you more than you could possibly know. But --
>> Lily: But what? What's wrong?
>> Simon: But -- I don't want to be with you like this. Lily, I want us to be together because that's what's in your heart, not
because you -- you feel you have to in order to get me to stay here, or out of sort of sense of revenge for what happened
between Holden and Rose.
>> Lily: Our relationship has nothing, nothing to do with Holden. Yes, I'm upset that I could be so easily replaceable. I don't
deny that. But it showed me the truth. I don't know any of these people. I don't know who they are. They don't know me. And
you're the only one. You're the only one that really knows me, who I really am. I'm not just a girl who looks like Rose.
>> Simon: I'm sorry, but I want to be more to you than that.
>> Lily: What do you mean?
>> Simon: I don't -- I don't want to be another Holden. A man with nothing of his own, with nothing to offer.
>> Lily: Look, what you offer me, what you give me is so much more valuable than anything that money --
>> Simon: No, no, listen, I'm not talking about money. I'm talking about us, about belonging. Everything was different on the
island. We had nothing to give each other but each other. Equally, in every respect. But you know, though, you belong here.
You have a place here. I'm nothing but an outsider with nothing more to give you than what I offered you on the island. It's just
me.
>> Lily: That's enough. That's everything to me right now.
>> Simon: I need to feel beyond right now. I don't want there to be any halfway measures between us. I want us to be sure
about each other. Sure that -- that when we're together, that we won't look back and wish we would have waited. When we
make love, that we'll be together, unattached to anyone else. Freely.
[They kiss while lying down in bed.]
>> Lily: Please. Please don't go. Please don't leave. Because I don't know -- I don't know if I could wake up tomorrow and
have you not here, and I don't know if I could take it.
Scene 3:
Location: Hotel suite.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: When I woke up this morning and I looked in the mirror, I didn't recognize myself.
>> Simon: How do you mean?
>> Lily: Not that I'm confusing myself with rose or anything like that. It's -- it just seems like I was just another right thing to do.
In every situation. And now I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole. I don't know anybody, nobody knows me and I'm closer
to somebody that I've only known a few months than to people I've known my entire life.
>> Simon: Well, I know that feeling.
>> Lily: It's so strange, you know? It's so strange. I come back here, and I see the friends and family that's supposed to be
safe for me, and I'm more afraid here than I ever was on that island.
>> Simon: See, you've said that before. And I find it hard to believe that someone with as much courage as you is afraid of
anything.
>> Lily: I'm afraid that I'll turn around -- and you'll be gone. I tried for so long to get rid of you, and now -- I don't know if I'll be
able to say good-bye.
>> Simon: You know, when I first heard the -- the story about my great-grandfather and "beloved" and the diamond, I couldn't
imagine what would possibly possess a man to give away something so valuable without even thinking twice. And then I found
the letters. And I read the words. And then I knew.
[Simon reads the letter]
"My Beloved, in my mind, is worthy and deserving, too beautiful for my world, too perfect to relinquish. My family's objections to
our love are of no consequence. I will always stand by you, no matter what the future brings or how my people threaten you.
Please be assured that the rose is yours to keep for all time."
[End of letter]
This -- this is the only thing that I managed not to lose after everything that we've been through. I kept it in my pocket, and now
I know why. I know it's not exactly a diamond, but these words are more valuable to me than anything in the world. And I think
it's only because now I fully comprehend them. It's silly, but I want you to have this. I want you to keep this, please. And if your
path never comes back to me -- you will always have my heart.
>> Lily: Like beloved had the diamond. Please don't leave town.
>> Simon: Lily --
>> Lily: Please, just -- you promised me. One night.
>> Simon: You'd better go. And I've got to warn you, I -- there's no guarantee I'll be tear -- I'll be able to tear myself away from
you next time -- if there is a next time. And if there is, maybe I won't have to. Because, Lily, if there is a next time, there is no
way I'm gonna let you go.
Scene 4:
Scene: Lakeview Restaurant - the bar.
KATIE PERETTI AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Katie: A cognac, please. Very superior, old pale. You look like you could use something stronger than a beer. May I buy
you a drink?
>> Simon: No. I'm fine. Thanks anyway.
>> Katie: Oh, don't worry, I'm not hitting on you, Simon.
>> Simon: I'm sorry. Do I know you?
>> Katie: Another cognac for my friend? It's on me. And, no. You don't really know me. But I know you. And a very wise man
recently told me that cognac is the perfect drink for people in our shoes.
>> Simon: Our shoes? What do you mean?
>> Katie: Well, like I said, I know who you are. And you and I have a lot more in common than you realize.
Scene 5:
Location: Lakeview Restaurant - the bar.
SIMON FRASIER AND KATIE PERETTI
>> Simon: I think I remember you now. You were at the -- yeah, the opening night party for the casino. You work for Holden,
right?
>> Katie: Yeah, I used to. Good memory. And good job getting off that island. I heard all about it. Hey, you might not have
won a million bucks, but it must have been a pretty interesting adventure, huh?
>> Simon: Yeah. Yeah, that it was.
>> Katie: Mind if I offer some vital advice?
>> Simon: Advice about what?
>> Katie: Lily and Holden's marriage. Holden and I have gotten pretty close over the last several months, and there's
something that I've learned about those two. Lily and Holden always find their way back to each other, no matter what. They've
been married, divorced, married to other people. I don't know why, I don't know how, but they always find their way home.
>> Simon: I'm sorry, but why do you think this has got anything to do with me?
>> Katie: I have eyes, Simon. And ears. And I know it makes you sick to your stomach to think of those two together.
Especially knowing that you were just a passionate pit stop, just a supporting player in the little games that they play.
>> Simon: Look, you have no idea about my situation.
>> Katie: Oh, you think so?
>> Simon: Lily and I spent months together away from civilization, just the two of us. I think I know her better than anyone, and
what we shared --
>> Katie: Oh, no, oh, no. No, I know this one by heart. Believe me. I used to think that Holden and I shared the same kind of
bond. But let me tell you the truth about Lily Snyder. Nothing is ever gonna erase from her mind the memory of that young,
reckless stable boy.
>> Simon: What, you think I'm afraid of a memory? Look, that is all in the past.
>> Katie: Yeah, but you know what they say. What's past is prologue.
>> Simon: No. What's past is past. Look, I'm only concerned about the future.
>> Katie: Well -- don't say I didn't warn you. Enjoy your cognac. And good luck with Lily. No, I mean it. Really. Because if you
actually do end up with her, that way we all get what we want. Good night.
