"Simon and Lily: Sizzle in the Slammer"
Just because Lily and Simon survived that desert island on "As the World
Turns" doesn't mean they are out of the woods. Next week, Lucinda will
catch her very married daughter in liplock with Simon. In prison.
"Three months on an island is a long time," points out Paul
Leyden, who plays hunky Australian rogue Simon. "In the
end, Lily and Simon saw more in each other than they ever
expected to."
And when they got back to Oakdale this week, nothing was
as they expected it to be.
"Both of them feel isolated," explains Leyden. "Lily has
lost the life she thought she had.....her husband slept with
someone else, her family doesn't recognize her, her kids are
confused. They find solace in each other."
Too bad they find that solace in jail, after Lily hears about
Simon's arrest.
"Simon just grabs her and kisses her: 'Cop this!' They kiss passionately and try to
grope each other through the bars of the jail and then her mom walks in," sets up
Leyden. "Lucinda thinks it's Rose, and Lily's like, 'I can't believe you still don't
recognize me!' It's funny and awkward. They've been caught."
After Lucinda confronts Lily and Simon, it's Lily's hubby's turn. "They go
head-to-head," says Leyden. "Holden calls him a hustler and a swindler and Simon
throws it right back: 'I'm a better man than you ---at least I would have known if I
was sleeping with the right woman!' "
The "wrong" woman was Rose, a Lily look-alike who impersonated the heroine all
summer. (Emmy winner Martha Byrne plays the dual role.) The resemblance will be
explained on air Sept. 22.
Leyden describes the kiss as a "turning point" for Simon, adding that the character
will probably be around for a while.
"I think I'll hang around Oakdale doing something," he says.
