Scene 1:
Place: Atlantic City, New Jersey
Location: Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.
Scene: Lily Walsh Snyder's hotel room
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Planning some day trips, I hope?
>> Simon: No, I had no idea there was so much to do in Atlantic City. And the local architecture -- there is a building in this
nearby town that looks exactly like an elephant. Really.
>> Lily: You should go visit it.
>> Simon: Anything to get rid of me, eh?
>> Lily: Are you referring to that little run-in that you had with the security guard? I'm so sorry, Simon.
>> Simon: That run-in was the highlight of my trip so far.
>> Lily: I should know better. Since lying to get yourself out of sticky situations seems to be your favorite pastime.
>> Simon: Actually, the security guard did most of the talking. Which reminds me -- tell me, Lily, who's Rose?
Scene 2:
Scene: Lily Walsh Snyder's hotel room
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Rose? Rose?
>> Simon: Yeah, Rose. Like, as in the flower.
>> Lily: Yeah, I get it.
>> Simon: Who is she?
>> Lily: Rose is the woman that was banging on the door.
>> Simon: Oh. Oh, yeah, yeah, the chatty one that you met in the van on the way from the airport.
>> Lily: Right. Rose. Yes.
>> Simon: You know, I had no idea what a popular name Rose is in the states.
>> Lily: Oh, right up there. Right up there with "Tiffany," "Amber" -- mm-hmm.
>> Simon: Right. Because when you got the guard to toss me out of the showroom, he told me that I was to never bother
Rose ever again.
>> Lily: He must be confused.
>> Simon: No, no, no. He was quite certain that your name was Rose. And get this -- get this -- that you were a showgirl, one
he knows quite well.
>> Lily: He's delusional. That's ridiculous.
>> Simon: Yeah, I know, and maybe I am, too. I mean, is it my imagination or did you launch into an ear-shattering squawk
of an accent to get the guard over? Lily, have you been going around town incognito?
>> Lily: That's ridiculous.
>> Simon: Of course. I mean, the sensible explanation is that the guard's whacko and that you have multiple
personalities.
>> Lily: You know exactly why I did that -- to get rid of you. And as for my voice, I was trying to get the guard's attention.
>> Simon: Oh, let's say I buy that, which I don't, this guard mistook you for this Rose person.
>> Lily: I have one of those faces. Look at my face. I look like everybody's cousin or somebody they went to junior high with.
Obviously he misspoke. Or he saw me with the woman from the shuttle and got our names mixed up.
>> Simon: Oh, yes, this mysterious chatterbox. You know, I would love to meet her fact to face.
>> Lily: No. Absolutely --
>> Simon: Why not? What are you hiding?
>> Lily: Because Rose is a pain, and I never want to deal with her again.
>> Simon: All you have to do is provide the introduction. I'll deal with your yappy friend.
[Phone ringing.]
>> Simon: Aren't you going to answer that? I will, if you like.
>> Lily: No, I want -- I would like privacy, please!
>> Simon: Sorry, Lily. Sometimes you can't always get what you want.
[Phone conversation between Lily Walsh Snyder and Holden Snyder.]
>> Lily: Hello.
>> Holden: Lily, I'm so glad I finally caught you in. How are you doing?
>> Lily: Okay. I'd be better if I were here with you.
>> Holden: Yeah, same here. But you know what? I have a solution to the problem.
>> Lily: Oh?
>> Holden: It looks like I'm going to finish my WOAK work sooner than expected, so why don't you join me?
>> Lily: That sounds very, very tempting. I would give anything to see you right now.
>> Holden: Well, great. You can catch a flight into New York tonight.
>> Lily: Tonight? Oh, that's so soon. I still haven't finished up here.
>> Holden: Well, how much longer do you think it's going to take?
>> Lily: It could be a while.
>> Holden: Well, I don't think I can wait that long.
>> Lily: Then come here. Atlantic City is not that bad, when you're with the right person.
>> Holden: All right. All right, I'll do it. I think I can catch a flight maybe tomorrow morning, or I'll hop a bus.
>> Lily: Great. I can't wait to see you.
>> Holden: Same here. I love you.
>> Lily: I love you, too. Bye-bye.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Oh. Wow, that was a touching repartee, although not entirely honest.
>> Lily: Oh, yes. And you are the arbiter of honesty, aren't you?
>> Simon: Well, you did withhold some very, very key points, like the fact that I'm here.
>> Lily: You can tell Holden yourself tomorrow.
>> Simon: Yeah, that should be a very interesting encounter.
>> Lily: Yes, especially when he punches your lights out.
>> Simon: I wouldn't be so sure about that.
>> Lily: Oh, I am. And I can't wait. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am in desperate need of a shower.
>> Simon: Yeah, go ahead.
>> Simon: I'll set about tracking down this elusive rose myself.
>> Lily: Wait! Simon! Ah!
[Lily Walsh Snyder on the phone.]
[Lily picks up the phone and dials three numbers.]
>> Lily: Rose, listen, it's Lily. I need you to come to my room right away. Forget about your nails! You need to come up here
right now because Simon -- he knows your name, and he's going to try to track you down! He's on a mission. Just relax. Just
keep a low profile. We have to do that. We have to do that until we find out exactly what he wants from us.
Scene 3:
Location: Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.
Scene: Show place.
MITZI ALONE.
>> Mitzi: Why do we even bother with napkins -- most of 'em would be happy using their sleeves.
[Simon enters the room.]
SIMON FRAISER AND MITZI
>> Simon: Stop! Don't move!
>> Mitzi: You're outta luck. I only got three bucks on me.
>> Simon: I'm sorry -- I didn't mean to frighten you.
>> Mitzi: Classy accent for a mugger.
>> Simon: I'm not a mugger. What shall I do with these?
>> Mitzi: Just put 'em on the table. These drunks'll never know the difference. You're early for the show. Way early.
>> Simon: Actually, I was looking for someone. But when I saw you reach across that table, I had to stop. The arc of your
back, the tilt of your neck -- you are the very essence of that beautiful film actress. Ah, what's the name?
>> Mitzi: Ashley Judd?
>> Simon: Ashley Judd, yes. I mean, you could be her twin.
>> Mitzi: I get that a lot.
>> Simon: You know, I am not surprised. So, tell me, why are you setting tables instead of strutting on the stage?
>> Mitzi: I'm vertically challenged. Too short. At least, that's what Blumstein says, anyway. He's the manager.
>> Simon: Manager of what? The custodial staff? I mean, if that man can't see what you have to offer, he's no judge of
talent.
>> Mitzi: Tell me about it. But a girl's gotta earn a living. The tips aren't that bad.
>> Simon: Wait, wait, wait. Perhaps I could help with that.
>> Mitzi: Stan Feld, agent. What kind of agent? Secret? Real estate? Insurance?
>> Simon: Talent agent. And I can get you work.
>> Mitzi: Look, if this involves possibly getting pneumonia from exposure, I don't strip.
>> Simon: No, no, don't worry. Don't worry. I deal in only strictly legitimate theatrical films.
>> Mitzi: So, what are you doing here in Atlantic City?
>> Simon: Well, you haven't you heard? They are shooting a huge blockbuster here this summer. And I don't know, perhaps I
could get you an audition. I mean, I can't make any guarantees, but with your unique appeal, I think you stand an excellent
chance.
>> Mitzi: Really?
>> Simon: Absolutely.
>> Mitzi: Do you mean I'm gonna audition?
>> Simon: Yes. Definitely. Oh, yeah, and mel did ask me to interview one of the showgirls.
>> Mitzi: Now, when you say Mel, you don't mean -- not Hollywood's "Lethal Weapon"?
>> Simon: Yes. You are quick.
>> Mitzi: Oh, be still my "Braveheart"! This is too much! Which girl is he interested in?
>> Simon: Her name is Rose.
>> Mitzi: Rose? Rose D'Angelo?
>> Simon: Yeah, yeah. That sounds about right.
>> Mitzi: You're kidding! "My Forever Young" and gorgeous Gibson wants to put my rose in a movie?
>> Simon: Yes. So, you know her? Well, this is a happy coincidence.
Scene 4:
Scene: Show place.
SIMON FRASIER AND MITZI
>> Mitzi: Rose is gonna die when she hears about this. When are you meetin' her?
>> Simon: Well, you know, I was hoping to find her here, but I haven't had any luck. And, unfortunately, I've really got to be
heading back to Hollywood.
>> Mitzi: But you can't leave! Rose can't miss a shot like this.
>> Simon: And I would really hate to miss her. Look, perhaps you could track her down for me, bring her here?
>> Mitzi: If I leave before I finish these tables, Blumstein'll bust a gut.
>> Simon: Look, I really - I really don't want to get you into any trouble. How about -- how about you give me Rose's
telephone number, and I can phone her from here.
>> Mitzi: Sorry. Look, I know you're a wonderful person and all, but we got rules -- to protect the girls from whackos.
>> Simon: I understand. This is very unfortunate. I'll just have to tell Mel that Rose was unavailable.
>> Mitzi: Wait. I got it. Why don't you leave her a note on the back of your card, and I will make sure that Rose gets it.
>> Simon: I just don't want you to go through any more trouble. How about I go backstage, and leave the note for Rose in
her dressing room myself?
>> Mitzi: Men aren't supposed to go backstage. Obvious reasons.
>> Simon: Look, I hardly feel I'm going to be disturbing anyone. I mean, there's hours until showtime.
>> Mitzi: True. It's not like you're going to see any bare naked ladies.
>> Simon: No.
>> Mitzi: I guess it'd be okay if you just leave the note and go.
>> Simon: I promise. Hey -- what about the big guy?
>> Mitzi: Murray? I'll handle him.
>> Simon: You are a doll. I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name.
>> Mitzi: My friends call me Mitzi. It's my name.
>> Simon: It's a pleasure.
>> Mitzi: Hey, Murray -- would you give me a hand over here, handsome?
[Simon slips into Rose's dressing room.]
Scene 5:
Location: Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.
Scene: Lily Walsh Snyder's hotel room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND ROSE D'ANGELO
>> Lily: Are you almost ready?
>> Rose: Simmer down. You rushed me with my nails, please let me freshen up my lipstick.
>> Lily: You look fine.
>> Rose: Fine is not good enough. I am a performer. I must look exquisite. My public demands it.
>> Lily: I want to make sure we have enough time to check out the necklace.
>> Rose: Look, if that Simon guy is after that bauble, he is a dope. It's not worth anything -- unless he likes to dress up like
Bette Midler. I crack myself up!
>> Lily: If Simon asks you anything about that necklace or the box that it came in, don't tell him anything.
>> Rose: Chillax, country girl. I know how to handle men.
>> Lily: I'm sure you do. But Simon is not after what most men are after.
>> Rose: You said yourself you don't know what he wants from you.
>> Lily: Whatever it is, it's not sex or money. It goes deeper than that.
>> Rose: If you're tryin' to make a point here, I'm not gettin' it.
>> Lily: Same features, same face. We never would have met if it weren't for Simon.
>> Rose: So you're sayin' you're glad about this? That we met?
>> Lily: It was such a shock. Seeing someone with my face -- living a completely different life --
>> Rose: You got that right.
>> Lily: But we are alike. Not just our faces. From the moment we met, I have felt this connection.
>> Rose: It's weird, huh? You know, like there's a bond between us.
>> Lily: Weird, but compelling.
>> Rose: I know what you mean. You don't do as much with the raw materials as I do, but when I look at you, I see a part of
me. I'm not sayin' it right.
>> Lily: Yes, you are. I understand.
>> Rose: I'm glad one of us does.
>> Lily: Rose, I don't believe for a minute that we met by chance. I think we were meant to connect. I need to know why.
>> Rose: And you think the sexy liar from down under is the key?
>> Lily: Yes. Yes, I do.
Scene 6:
Scene: Dressing room.
SIMON FRASIER ALONE.
>> Simon: This looks promising.
[Simon sees the black and white 'Victorian Lily' photo.]
>> Simon: Good for you, Lily. You're on the right track after all.
Scene 7:
Location: Boardwalk Plaza Hotel.
Scene: Hallway.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Going somewhere, Lily? Perhaps to take in a show, starring your good friend, Rose D'Angelo?
[Rose peeks from her hiding place inside the room.]
