LILY WALSH SNYDER, SIMON FRASIER, AND ROSE D'ANGELO
>> Simon: Rose, rose, come on. Didn't anything we talk about mean anything to you? We could plan a future together. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Share, share the money from the diamond.
>> Rose: Oh, yeah, that'll work.
>> Lily: I may have temporary lapses when it comes to men, but I'm not stupid. What did you do now? This another one of your tricks? If this is supposed to scare us, it's not gonna work.
>> Simon: No, no, no, no. This -- this wasn't me, all right? We've been found out. Run!
[Gunshots.]
>> Lily: Are you okay?
>> Rose: Those are real bullets flying out there. Maybe Simon is right. Maybe this diamond is cursed.
>> Lily: Simon is our only curse. That's why we're being shot at. Are you okay?
>> Rose: No holes. No holes, if that's what you mean. This isn't a walk in the park.
>> Lily: Don't move. Security should be here soon. Security, your friend, your security guard friend, he'll be back, right?
>> Rose: Murray? Murray? He's working alone tonight.
>> Lily: Isn't he dog the rounds?
>> Rose: Rounds? Rounds, that means he goes around the entire place. Who knows when he's gonna be back here?
>> Lily: If we get separated --
>> Rose: What, what, no, no, no, no. You're not leaving me alone, stuck here in the middle of this mess.
>> Lily: I'm just saying, if we get separated, please, if it gets crazy, just meet me back in Oakdale.
>> Rose: Why?
>> Lily: I have family there. You have my face. They'll keep you safe. Look, this is what you do.
[Gunshot.]

>> Hotel manager: The room appears empty, sir. The maid has already come in and turned down the bed.
>> Holden: Yeah, hasn't been touched. Well, where could she be? Is there a show that she might have gone to downstairs, maybe?
>> Hotel manager: I'm sorry, sir, our floorshow was over quite some time ago.
>> Holden: Maybe she went to another hotel.
>> Hotel manager: Ours is the last show on the boardwalk. But of course, gambling is 24-hour entertainment, sir. I'm sure your wife is simply enjoying herself.
>> Holden: Simon Frasier.
>> Hotel manager: Would you like to leave discreetly, Mr. Snyder?
>> Holden: No. I'm gonna stay right here until my wife gets back.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: Lily? Rose? Rose Lily -- can you hear me? A pulse, a pulse. Where is it? Where is the diamond? No, no, no. Don't be -- don't be dead. You can't be dead. Just wake up. You've got to wake up. They're coming. All right.

>> Rose: Someone was shooting at me!
>> Security guard: What?! Where?!
>> Rose: In the casino showroom downstairs! Someone is after me!
>> Security guard: Just calm down. Are you sure what you heard was shots? There's an awful lot of stuff in the showroom.

HOLDEN SNYDER OPENS THE DOOR OF THE HOTEL ROOM.

>> Holden: Lily?
>> Security guard: This the guy bothering you?
>> Rose: No --
>> Holden: I'm her husband!

HOLDEN SNYDER AND ROSE D'ANGELO (PRETENDING TO BE LILY WALSH SNYDER)

>> Holden: Lily, there's nobody there.
>> Rose: Get inside where it's safe.
>> Holden: The police are on their way over. Lily, it's okay. You're safe now. Lily, I have some questions, and I need some answers.
>> Rose: What? Anything. Sure.
>> Holden: Yeah, okay. First, answer me this -- are you having an affair with Simon Frasier?
>> Rose: Why on earth would you think that I'm having an affair with Simon Frasier?
>> Holden: What am I supposed to think when I find his things in your room?
>> Rose: I can explain.
>> Holden: You can explain? Can you explain why he was answering your cell phone?
>> Rose: Holden, don't jump to conclusions.
>> Holden: This is about more than a portrait, isn't it?
>> Rose: The portrait -- the portrait was the beginning --
>> Holden: Lily, you tell me that you're going to Atlantic City to find this long, lost relative. You don't tell me who it is, you don't tell me anything about them. You've been gone for days. When was the last time you called the kids? This isn't like you.
>> Rose: It's very complicated, Holden.
>> Holden: Yeah, well, I've got all night.
>> Rose: Please -- please don't press me, because I've had a very difficult time of it. Can you just drop it?
>> Holden: So, what are you saying? You expect me to just let this go? Lily, you go on some crazy pursuit to Atlantic City, I find another man's things in your room, you're shocked to see me, and all you can tell me is that you're being pursued by some crazy gunman!
>> Rose: I know. That does sound bizarre, and I should -- I should have told you everything from the beginning, and then things might not have gotten so out of control.
>> Holden: Well, I'm listening.
>> Rose: I did come here to find a relative, Holden. That is true.
>> Holden: And Simon just happened to be here, too?
>> Rose: No. He followed me.
>> Holden: Why?
>> Rose: He was after a diamond.
>> Holden: A diamond? What diamond?
>> Rose: A diamond that he thought belonged to his family, which he thought that I had inherited, which I did not. The next thing I know, I was being shot at and people were chasing me. Look, Holden, you just have to believe this. You have to believe that I am not having an affair with Simon Frasier!

All right, there's no going back to the hotel because that place is swarming with cops. I couldn't leave you bind now, with my diamond, could I, Lily? Or Rose. Is it Rose, Lily? You know, who cares? Who cares as long as you have my rock.

Scene 8:

LILY WALSH SNYDER (UNCONSCIOUS) AND SIMON FRASIER

[Simon examines the diamond.]

>> Simon: This is paste! A fake! No, all right. Okay, make sure, make sure, Simon. Make sure. This doesn't cut it, not by a long shot! Where is my diamond?! You know, I really ought to leave you here. Rose, Lily, you deserve it!

[Rail boxcar door closes.]
[Train whistle sounds.]
>> Simon: Oh, no, no, no. Wait, wait!
