PAUL'S PUBLICITY

Soap Opera Update

Livin' & Lovin' Leyden
Meet ATWT's newest dream man ---the one who longs for Lily!
Although two actors named Paul already top the AS THE WORLD TURNS cast list---Paul Korver (Chris) and Paul Taylor (Isaac)---Paul Leyden (Simon) needn't worry about
others confusing him with his Oakdale counterparts. The minute Leyden speaks, the distinction is made by the lull of his Australian accent and capricious wit.
Leyden's unguarded spirit and kick-back attitude reaffirms, if only momentarily, a long-held American belief that all Australians are Crocodile Dundee nomads. Leyden only fits the
rugged Outback fantasy, if one considers a suit nodding off behind a computer at Price Waterhouse an adventure worthy of mention! Laughing at the memory, the actor confesses, "I
slept more than ever! If I didn't quit, they'd have sacked me."
His procrastination for numbers would soon transfer into artistic contributions, like founding a production company---"It's not FOX!"--- and writing, directing and starring with an
ex-flatmate in an acclaimed, albeit unique, short film that spoofed the traffic restrictions placed on fruit flies. Theirs was one of 800 films recognized at Australia's prestigious
Tropicana Film Festival, which insists on a yearly theme, and in Leyden's showing, bugs set the trend.
As for the Big Apple, Leyden admits to being pained by the long O's and stubby A's that percolate inside the mouths of countless Tony Soprano clones. "I've met girls who start
yapping at the same time, talking in this shrill accent, and I'm going, 'Oh God, please stop,'" he half-jokes. Being the owner of a George Clooney half-smile that embraces a Tom
Hanks affability, makes it impossible for New Yorkers to not offer Leyden absolution. So this one time, we'll fuggeddabout it!
"I'm so lucky and happy that my storyline involves Martha (Byrne, Lily)--she's such a gem," says the star.
Did You Know?
Leyden is the oldest of five. "We are a tight-knit group," he says.
EDITOR'S NOTE.....From other accounts, Paul Leyden is the "second" oldest of five children, not the oldest as is reported in this article.
