Scene 1:
Location: Outdoors, near the railroad tracks.

LILY WALSH SNYDER ALONE.

>> Lily: I should've stayed in the boxcar. At least until I got a little stronger. But I have to be headed somewhere -- or further away from civilization. Simon Fraiser's the only human being I've seen since I left Atlantic City. Oh, I'm so tired and I'm hungry. Now, I'm talking to myself. I wonder if rose is okay. I wonder if she's made it back to Oakdale yet. People have to be looking for me. Right? I just want my life back.

Scene 2:
Location: Outdoors, near the railroad tracks.

LILY WALSH SNYDER ALONE.

>> Lily: I got myself into this mess. I'll get myself out. My children need me -- almost as much as I need them. And Holden -- I've just got to keep going. I'll just keep going, and I'll run into somebody eventually.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

[Simon whistling.]
>> Lily: Oh, no! No! Not you again!
>> Simon: You ought to thank your lucky stars, my friend.
>> Lily: For you stalking me? I don't think so.
>> Simon: For saving your life. Again.
>> Lily: Saving my life? What are you talking about?
>> Simon: I was saving your life from wandering further into the middle of nowhere when you can barely walk as it is.
>> Lily: I am doing just fine without you.
>> Simon: Oh, yeah. That is -- that is so obvious. Why can't you just possibly admit that I might be right?
>> Lily: Because you're a liar.
>> Simon: Well, wasn't it this liar that made the tonic that broke your fever? Lily, if you keep pushing yourself, running even further on empty, you are going to have a massive relapse.
>> Lily: No. Just leave me alone.
>> Simon: Now, now. You don't mean that. You don't know where you'd be without me.
[Lily laughs.]
>> Lily: Yes, I do. I would be home with my husband and my children, and I would be happy.
>> Simon: Okay. You ready to go home again? Okay, that's fine. Fine. I'll even give you a hand. Otherwise, just say the word and I will leave you here to fend for yourself.

Scene 3:
Location: Outdoors, near the railroad tracks.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

>> Simon: How to interpret this silence. Either you're trying to freeze me out, you know, ignore the bloke, go for the ole dry up and disappear -- or you still haven't got the strength to outrun me. So, what's next on the agenda, lily? What are you gonna do? Hitch a ride with the next passing train, maybe return to your days as "boxcar lily" -- that is, if it doesn't knock you down. You know what they say, you n never hear the one that actually gets you.
>> Lily: What is -- what are you doing here? You just cannot stand the fact that I am doing just fine without you.
>> Simon: Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. No food, no water, stuck out here in the middle of nowhere. That's fine. That's -- that's good.
>> Lily: I call anywhere, any place Simon-free, "fine."
>> Simon: You know what? You might find this difficult to believe, but I just couldn't leave you here to die of starvation, exposure. Just chalk it up to simple, human decency.
>> Lily: Oh, that is a joke. Do you think I'm really that stupid? I know that you're just tagging me, because I am your only pa h to the diamond.
>> Simon: You're sick, you're weak, you probably can't remember the last time you had a decent meal.
>> Lily: Or had 24 hours without you following me.
>> Simon: What are you talking about? You had this monotonous nonscenic walk along the railroad by yourself.
>> Lily: That's good, that's a good one. That's a nice try.
>> Simon: What?
>> Lily: Come on, you've been following me the entire time.
>> Simon: What? I am not.
>> Lily: Yes, you have. You're just waiting for me to exhaust myself, so you can swoop in and drag me off to take you to that diamond.
>> Simon: You know, that's a brilliant idea. I wish I'd thought of that myself.
>> Lily: Well, forget it. It's enough. It's not going to work.
>> Simon: Look, I haven't been following your every step, okay?!
>> Lily: I know you have! Simon, I could sense you there! I know that you are following me.
>> Simon: All right. Fine, fine. Don't believe me.
>> Lily: I don't. It doesn't -- say anything, do whatever you want. I really don't care anymore. I could care less. All I care about is getting home to my husband, and my family. And nothing you say or do will stop me! Now, if you don't want to become a casualty on the side of the tracks, now you'll just get out of my way and let me go! Leave me alone!

Scene 4:
Location: Outdoors, near the railroad tracks.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

>> Lily: Come on, lily, you can do this. You gave birth to two children. Come on. Just one more time. Oh. Oh, I can't. Simon! Simon, do you hear me? Simon, I need your help.
>> Simon: Finally, those four magic words.
>> Lily: Oh, so you're not following me, hey?
>> Simon: No, I was going to go off on merry way. But then I thought, no, no, no. I can't leave youx without offering you a hobo's breakfast -- peanut butter crackers, apple juice.
>> Lily: Where'd you find food?
>> Simon: A vending machine, genius. About two miles up the track in the other direction, the right direction.
>> Lily: Is the food supposed to be a visual aid or what? Peanut butter crackers. I've never been so happy to see peanut butter and crackers. Where's the town? What kind of town is it? Is it a big town or what?
>> Simon: No, no, no. Hey, hey, just relax. It's not exactly a town, it's just a railroad platform.
>> Lily: Railroad station?
>> Simon: Uh-huh.
>> Lily: Why didn't you tell me that?
>> Simon: Well, just finish your breakfast. Finish it off, and if you've finished telling me where to go -- perhaps we can go there together.

Scene 5:
Location: Outdoors, near the railroad tracks.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

>> Simon: So, let's say we ditch this dive and get back to the land of the living.
>> Lily: Finally, go home, see my kids. Give my husband a big kiss. Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. You are going to let me go, right? When we get to the railroad station? This isn't some other plan of yours? To lure me back to Atlantic City to get the diamond?
>> Simon: Well, I would say you have to trust me. But considering the fact that we've been down that road several times before with little success.
>> Lily: Very true.
>> Simon: Well, considering all your other viable options around here, you're just going to have to tag along and find out. So, are you coming, because this train is taking off?
>> Lily: Simon -- all right, wait. Wait up, Simon.
