Scene 1:
Place: A deserted island off of North Carolina on the Atlantic Ocean.
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
[Simon coughing.]
>> Simon: Lily? Lily. Lily! Lily, answer me! Lily, lily, talk to me now, please! Lily!
Scene 2:
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
[Lily is unconscious.]
>> Simon: Lily, please answer me! Wake up.
[Lily regains consciousness.]
[Lily coughing.]
>> Simon: Are you all right?
>> Lily: What happened?
>> Simon: I don't know. Some kind of bomb or mine. I'm not sure.
>> Lily: Why would that be here?
>> Simon: Look, I said, I don't -- probably some German trigger-mine, left over from World War II. But it's okay.
All right? We are fine. We're okay.
>> Lily: Do you ever tell the truth?
>> Simon: What do you mean? What?
>> Lily: Because that's a lie! A bomb just went off! We could've been killed. Nothing about that is all right.
>> Simon: Shh, please. Lily, we are not dead. Okay? We're just -- we're just a little dusty. That's all.
>> Lily: Oh, you have all the answers, don't you?! We're just gonna drink water, eat fish, eat berries and
everything's gonna be all right. I know it's gonna be hard for you, Simon. For the first time in your life, tell me
the truth.
>> Simon: Is that what you prefer?
>> Lily: I'd prefer to be home with my family and nice and clean, instead of being bombed by Germans 60
years after the war. I can't take it anymore. Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, we're off North Carolina.
Right?
>> Simon: Well, presumably. Yes, I don't know.
>> Lily: Well, it could be one of those island that they do practice or they test on. There could be bombs all
over the place here.
>> Simon: No, no, no, no. The sooner they'll return, the sooner we'll be rescued when they come for practice.
Okay?
>> Lily: There'll be nothing left of us by then.
>> Simon: Shh, you're hysterical.
>> Lily: Yes, because I'm a rational human being! Any rational human being would be hysterical in this
situation!
>> Simon: Please, Lily, you need -- you need to calm down. Just calm down.
>> Lily: I need to be home with my husband and my family.
>> Simon: Be careful, all right?
>> Lily: My beautiful life -- my beautiful life was right there, and you just took it out from under me, and it's all
your fault.
>> Simon: I am sorry. Okay? I am truly sorry for doing this to you.
>> Lily: Look, you can stick around for the next disaster, but I'm --
>> Simon: Lily, what are you doing?
>> Lily: I'm just gonna find any way I can off the island! So please don't follow me. Why are you following
me?
>> Simon: You're about to pass out.
>> Lily: No, I'm not.
>> Simon: And when you do, you're gonna hit your head. You'll do some real damage. So just -
>> Lily: I'm just fine. I just --
>> Simon: You just never quit, do you?
Scene 3:
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Come on. Come on. Okay, just sit still. Sit still. You might have a little concussion from the blast.
Look at me. Look at me.
>> Lily: Are my eyes clear?
>> Simon: Yeah. Yeah, hopefully, you're just a little dehydrated. All right, drink this.
>> Lily: Did you do all this?
>> Simon: Yeah. Uh-huh.
>> Lily: This is where you've been living, while I was burrowed into the cold, wet sand like a hermit crab?
>> Simon: Hey, I offered, remember? Now, I thought we'd pool all our resources, but you were like, "no, no,
every man for himself." So everything's exactly the way you wanted it.
>> Lily: All I wanted was to get home to my husband and my family, and while I've been thinking of ways of
doing that, you've been playing "home improvement."
>> Simon: No, I'm just preparing for the inevitable. That's all. Okay. I -- look, there is no telling how long we're
gonna be stuck on this island. All right? I just want to be comfortable in the meantime.
>> Lily: You should've used every energy that you had, every piece doing something useful. Like building
smoke signals, drawing "S.O.S." In the sand.
>> Simon: Oh, come on. I've tried doing that with you biting my head off every step of the way. You know, I
tried to help, but every time I do, you tell me where to go.
>> Lily: I've been freezing outside there on the beach, and you have this warm place. You know, you could
have worked a little harder to convince me to come in here.
>> Simon: All right. Okay. I'm sorry, I could've -- I could've told you more about it. Okay. But I guess this is a
good time for me to tell you about the plans I've been hatching.
>> Lily: I'm all ears.
>> Simon: Well, I didn't go to all this trouble to make it comfortable just for me.
>> Lily: Did you find something? You did, didn't you? When you were cleaning out this place, what did you
find? A radio? Tell me you found a radio?
>> Simon: No. No, no, no, no. I didn't find a radio. It's nothing like that. Okay. Don't get your hopes up. I was
just thinking that -- look, I was just hoping that maybe you'd move in here with me.
Scene 4:
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: No way! No! No, I'm not moving in here with you. I'm not going to fulfill some sort of Tarzan and Jane
fantasy of yours!
>> Simon: Offering you a comfortable place to stay. Look around. That's all. A home of sorts.
>> Lily: A home. I have a family and I have a husband. And that's all I can do is think about trying to get back
to them.
>> Simon: Who's stopping you? You know, go for it! Work your fingers to the bone, build a ship, build a bridge!
You know, I don't care! You know, I just thought stupidly that in the meantime you'd like a warm and dry place
to stay.
>> Lily: Every single second that you spent doing anything but trying to get off this island is useless!
>> Simon: Yeah, and every single second you spent dreaming that it's gonna happen is --
>> Lily: What were you going to say?
>> Simon: Nothing! Nothing, all right?! I just lost my temper.
>> Lily: You think that we're never getting off this island, don't you?
>> Simon: I want to get out of here just as badly as you do, all right? But I am a realist! Look, we could be
stuck here for years, all right? I want to be prepared for the worst.
>> Lily: No, weeks, top!
>> Simon: Yeah, how? Lily, enlighten me.
>> Lily: Satellites, airplanes, cruise ships. Come on! We're not in outer Mongolia here. Somebody will see us if
we send off a big enough signal.
>> Simon: Oh, "a big enough signal"?! We just set off a bomb! Did you see anyone running to help us?
>> Lily: They will -- in time.
>> Simon: Yeah, in time. Right, yeah. And those planes circling overhead, they are cruising at 30,000 feet.
And they're not looking for us.
>> Lily: But Holden -- Holden, he's looking for me.
>> Simon: Yeah, where? Atlantic City, Canada, Australia even? Look, he's probably turned this world upside
down searching for you. But you can't expect him to inspect every speck of sand in the ocean. Lily, we could
be stuck here for a very long time. And that is the cold, hard truth.
Scene 5:
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: No way.
>> Simon: Look, I know it's not what you want to hear, Lily, but that's the truth.
>> Lily: This is what you want, right? This is secretly what you want inside. You want us to be stuck here
forever! Don't you?
>> Simon: Oh, give me a break!
>> Lily: This is some sort of sick fantasy of yours, right?
>> Simon: My fantasy began I can get off of this island just by myself.
>> Simon: Fine! Fine! Good luck making that pathetic...
Scene 6:
Location: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Just go ahead. I'd do the same if I had it in me. Everything's gonna be -- it's gonna be all right,
okay? All right, you want the truth? Okay, I'll give it a try. I have -- I have absolutely no idea if and when we'll
ever get off this island, okay? For what it's worth -- look, I am here for you. All right? I know that doesn't count
for much, you know, with everything I've done, but if you ever need someone to yell at or ignore -- I'm not going
anywhere.
>> Lily: You're not helping me.
>> Simon: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude.
>> Lily: No, I just -- I need comfort. I don't need a reality intrusion.
>> Simon: So you'd prefer if I lie now?
>> Lily: You know what they say -- "in times of disaster, go with your strengths."
>> Simon: Who said that?
>> Lily: My mom.
>> Simon: Come here. It's going to be all right. Okay? Everything is going to be all right.
