Scene 1:
Place: In the Atlantic Ocean.
Location: A deserted island.
Scene: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
[Simon Frasier is bare chested and bare footed. His shirt is attached to his dark pants.]
>> Simon: Ah, been berry-picking, have we?
>> Lily: No, no, no. "We" haven't -- I have.
>> Simon: Lily, there's something you really should know.
>> Lily: No, no, no. I'm not sharing my berries with you.
>> Simon: Oh, relax --
>> Lily: That is so typical of you. I find something valuable, and you want to steal it from me.
>> Simon: Look, I am so not plotting to swipe your puny, little berries.
>> Lily: That's good, because whatever you were doing, playing Robinson Crusoe, whatever it is -- I was out
getting mangled by some berry bushes to get a few ripe ones. So look, if you're trying to get a handout from
me, it's not -- what's that smell?
>> Simon: What s -- oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've managed to find a little something to eat, as well. Feast your
eyes on these two bad boys. Thought I'd get the fire all stoked up, cook 'em up. I think they could be red
drum, but I'm not sure, because I don't know exactly where in the Atlantic we are, but they're going to be
tasty.
>> Lily: My dinner!
Scene 2:
Scene: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Nothing like a fresh fish dinner, hey, Lily?
>> Lily: How did you catch them?
>> Simon: With this. This little stick here -- I whittled down the end with my pocket knife. Look, there are two
fish. There's plenty for both of us.
>> Lily: No, I don't want a handout from you.
>> Simon: It's called sharing, Lily, not charity.
>> Lily: Look, as soon as I get these berries cleaned off, I'm going to eat like a king.
>> Simon: You don't want to eat those.
>> Lily: Oh, yes, I do, because I found them on my own. I am able to make my own shelter and find my own
food, so I don't want anything from you.
>> Simon: Lily -- out in the middle of nowhere, it's skill that counts, not pride. So just take a fish.
>> Lily: No. No. I got you to shore. You saved me back in that train car, and I feel that we are even. Our
books are balanced. I don't want anything from you.
>> Simon: All righty. Suit yourself.
>> Lily: What I wouldn't give for running water and some whipped cream.
>> Simon: Oh, yeah, I mean, I don't want to upset the balance and put you back in my debt or anything, Lily,
but -
>> Lily: Please go cook your fish and just leave me alone.
>> Simon: Those berries? Yeah, they're poisonous. Eat too many and you're a goner.
>> Lily: Oh! Oh, I hope your fish has tiny little bones in them, and you choke on them!
Scene 3:
Scene: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Been swimming, have we?
>> Lily: Shut up.
>> Simon: Oh, whoa! Hey, nice job. What did you do, sharpen it with a sea sponge? Hey, don't worry. You'll
get the knack.
>> Lily: I'm not worried. Do I look worried? You know what they say, there's always tomorrow.
>> Simon: Yup. There sure is.
>> Lily: Besides, I have things that I have to do. I have to fix my shelter. I think a few leaves fell off last
night.
>> Simon: Ah! A leaf -- great idea! Here we go. A little bit of garnish right -- there. Yamo. It's my specialty.
It's lightly seasoned with a little bit of kelp and some sand.
>> Lily: Take that away from me, please.
>> Simon: Look, Lily, I'm not going to sit by here and watch you go hungry.
>> Lily: Well, then go on the other side of the island and just leave me alone.
>> Simon: Just pretend you're at the Mona Lisa and I'm a really annoying waiter.
>> Lily: Dealing with you, the price of that is highly astronomical.
>> Simon: So what? So, you're going to starve yourself just to prove how independent and self-sufficient you
can be? Eat.
>> Lily: I don't want your charity.
>> Simon: Look, it's just a fish! It's not charity, it's sustenance. It's dinner. It's --
>> Lily: It's going back on the fire!
>> Simon: All right, all right, then just think of it as a trade. Okay? You eat the fish now and then you can do
some favor for me later on.
>> Lily: There's nothing I want to do for you -- do to you, maybe, but not for you.
>> Simon: Lily, we really have to work together.
>> Lily: We're not allies, Simon.
>> Simon: All right, but do we have to be sworn enemies? Look, whether we like it or not, we are stuck here,
and you need me.
Scene 4:
Scene: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Lily, that looks like a storm brewing. Let's not waste our time arguing, okay?
>> Lily: Look, we're not sharing anything. Not time, not fish, nothing for that matter -- and look, I have a shelter
of my own.
>> Simon: Oh, yeah, yeah, you sure do. And a fine castle it is, too.
>> Lily: Your point?
>> Simon: Well, a strong wind might not be as kind to it as I am.
>> Lily: I have built a few tents in my day.
>> Simon: Yeah, yeah. Somehow I don't think this one was ordered from the same catalog.
>> Lily: Not one of them has ever sprung a leak.
>> Simon: Oh, Oakdale get a lot of hurricanes, does it?
>> Lily: My shelter will be fine.
>> Simon: Against a strong gale-force wind? I don't think so. Will you just swallow your pride and share my
shelter with me?
>> Lily: Not on your life! If I want to be in hell, I want it to be in my own private one, thank you.
>> Simon: Lily, you're being insane now.
>> Lily: Add that to being exhausted and hungry and -- it's quite an adventure. Isn't it?
>> Simon: Then eat! All right? Then eat. Eat the fish, share my shelter with me and get some rest.
>> Lily: No matter how much I'm suffering, it doesn't compare to what my family is going through right now.
Luke probably doesn't think I'm ever coming home!
>> Simon: I'm sorry, Lily, now you've really lost me. What has missing your family got to do with going hungry
and refusing shelter?
>> Lily: And faith -- who's kissing her at night? Who's singing songs to her? You know, everyone is missing so
much in their life because of you!
>> Simon: Lily, just listen. You are going to get back to your family, Lily, I promise. Okay? You will make it
home.
>> Lily: You bet I will. Because I will not let you or your sister ruin my life. I will get back to Oakdale, and I don't
need your help to do it.
>> Simon: All right. All right, fine, but you really should keep your strength up and get some rest. Just -- just
eat the blasted fish, please! Don't do it for me, no, don't do it for me. Do it for Holden and for your kids, so
you're strong enough to get home to them. Fine. Well, don't. Don't. You know, whatever. I'll leave it there for
you. Maybe some other predator might appreciate it. See ya later.
Scene 5:
Scene: On the beach.
LILY WALSH SNYDER ALONE.
[Thunder clapping.]
>> Lily: Oh, come on. This cannot last all night. Ahh! Come on, Lily! Holden taught you how to tie knots.
Don't you pay attention? Forget it! Okay, it's just mother nature. What do animals do when they want to stay
warm? No, you're not completely miserable! This isn't the worst situation you've been in your entire life! You
cannot let them win, Lily. You cannot let Simon and his sister win. You can do this.
>> Lily: Okay, I'm warm, I'm warm. I'm in my house, I'm in my warm bed. I'm really warm and cozy under my
comforter. Holden comes in and he cuddles next to me to keep me warm.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: At least you ate the fish.
[Simon covers Lily with a blanket.]
LILY WALSH SNYDER ALONE.
>> Lily: Thank you.
