Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

> >> Simon: I didn't mean to sneak up on you like that. Did I scare you?
> >> Lily: No. No, it's the situation with Katie that scares me.
> >> Simon: I know. And when you hung up on me so suddenly, I didn't know > what to think.
> >> Lily: I'm sorry. I just -- I was in shock. And I couldn't talk, my family was there.
> >> Simon: Suddenly Katie's pregnancy seemed so real, so final.
> >> Lily: That's what she wants, you know? She's hoping that a few lies and a some wishful thinking will turn into a husband and children.
> >> Simon: Well, that's not gonna happen. My future is with you, no matter what. We just have to decide what that is.
> >> Lily: We can't decide anything until we have proof.
> >> Simon: What? That she's lying, you mean?
> >> Lily: She cannot be pregnant.
> >> Simon: Well, maybe not. But I wish I was as convinced as you are.
> >> Lily: You know, I'm actually glad that katie tipped her hand about this. Because that is one less person that I have to feel guilty about. And that list is very, very long.
> >> Simon: I'm sorry, lily, but I have to say this -- but what if she isn't lying?
> >> Lily: She has to be. I mean, her timing is impeccable then. She knows that we're going to make plans, and then she decides to pounce.
> >> Simon: She does seem to have an instinct for survival.
> >> Lily: So do I. And I don't want her to think that she can get away with a stunt like this.
> >> Simon: But this might not be a stunt.
> >> Lily: What are you talking about? I mean, the chances of Katie getting pregnant on a one-night stand -- I mean, very slim. Then you factor in the birth control that failed somehow, I mean, we're talking a very, very minimal chance.
> >> Simon: But we didn't -- I didn't use any protection that night.
> >> Lily: You didn't use a condom?
> >> Simon: I had one, but I threw it away.
> >> Lily: What?
> >> Simon: I won't lie to you, lily. But I was drunk, and I was stupid. That's probably the biggest mistake I've ever made.

Scene 2:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

> >> Simon: Look, I know how this looks. But it's not the end of the world.
> >> Lily: Then why does it feel like it is?
> >> Simon: Hey, we can still be together. I mean, Katie's not asking for anything. I'll help her out financially, and I'll do my part.
> >> Lily: Look, Simon, you don't have a clue what it's like to be a parent. You have no idea. None. Katie will be a part of your live forever now, making decisions about schools and braces and friends, and even when two people love each other it's difficult. But with Katie, it's a minefield.
> >> Simon: You're right, Lily, I don't have a clue. All I know is that I love you, and I will do everything in my power to make it up to you.
> >> Lily: Maybe it's out of our hands now.
> >> Simon: What do you mean?
> >> Lily: Maybe fate has already made its plan.
> >> Simon: No, you can't start thinking like that.
> >> Lily: I'm trying. I'm really trying not to, Simon. I understand sleeping with Katie, I understand that, it happens. But how could you be so foolish? Didn't you know how dangerous that was?
> >> Simon: Look, I didn't care much about anything that night. I'm not making any excuses, but you had left and I thought I'd never see you again. I started drinking, I was feeling self-destructive or something. There's nothing I can say, all right? It's indefensible. > >> Lily: Look, I'm sorry. I don't mean to attack you, but I just don't know -- I don't know if I could face another roadblock right now.
> >> Simon: I would do anything to be able to turn back the clock, but I can't. Sometimes I wish we'd never even come back here. Things seemed so much more simple on the island.
> >> Lily: When you involve children, finding a deserted island is like, not in the cards, Simon.
> >> Simon: Look, I'm not asking you to run away. I would never, ever ask you to desert your kids.
> >> Lily: You can't either.
> >> Simon: What? So now you think Katie's telling the truth.
> >> Lily: I'm just trying to think about the worst-case scenario.
> >> Simon: Okay, okay, worst-case scenario -- maybe it's true. Katie has my baby. That doesn't change our plans to go to Canada. I can, you can still commute back and forth, and I can keep in touch with Katie from there, work out some kind of child support --
> >> Lily: Right, or maybe Katie will move to Canada to be closer to you. Katie will do anything possible, all of it bad.
> >> Simon: But it doesn't change anything, does it? Look, I can still do the right thing by Katie. You can still tell Holden everything you were gonna tell him. You have to be patient with me, give me a little time.
> >> Lily: I don't think patience is going to work this time. Don't you see what you've done? What you and Katie have started changes everything.

Scene 3:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

> >> Lily: We've had to overcome so many challenges already, Simon. Talking about me commuting back and forth with my children. And now, you have a family.
> >> Simon: Why are you're only seeing the complications here?
> >> Lily: I can't help it. Katie having your baby is a nightmare, a nightmare.
> >> Simon: She's got a family here. You know, maybe they'd help out. She > hates them, but they seem pretty decent to me.
> >> Lily: Don't you see that's why she hates them? They've given her a million chances, and she's failed every time. They've lost patience with her. And can you blame them? I don't want her near my kids, I don't want her in my house.
> >> Simon: Look, I know you don't want Katie in your life. And I've seen what an opportunist she is. But, you know, that's probably what people think about me.
> >> Lily: No, don't say that.
> >> Simon: Yeah, maybe that's why you're having second thoughts.
> >> Lily: No. I love you, Simon, I do. And part of the reason I love you is because I know you'll be wonderful father. You couldn't turn away from your child, and Katie knows that. She's not that stupid. They'll get the sniffles and they'll lose teeth. And they'll write to the Tooth Fairy or to Santa Claus, or write to you, ask for care packages from camp. And there will be baseball games and falling out of trees and falling in love. And your heart will break if you miss any of that, let alone all of that.

Scene 4:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

> >> Simon: Don't give up on me, Lily. I know I've disappointed you, but --
> >> Lily: No, I'm disappointed in you. I'm disappointed in myself. Here I am minutes away from asking Holden for a divorce, and then I hear the news about Katie and I just freeze. That's not even the worst part.
> >> Simon: What? Tell me.
> >> Lily: I'm a coward. If I had told Holden, then we'd have to deal with this situation with Katie, and we would go on with our lives. But now I can hold on to what I used to have a little bit longer.
> >> Simon: Today you said you wanted to be with me. That what you "used to have" is over. It can't be the same again with Holden.
> >> Lily: You sound so sure of yourself.
> >> Simon: I'm sure about you, about what we feel. It's the only thing that I am sure about. And I thought you were sure about me. Look, I understand how fragile our situation is, but we have just been bombarded with so many obstacles, so much bad luck.
> >> Lily: You make your own luck, I think. Here am I sitting around the table with Emma, Luke and Holden, and they're so happy. Emma makes my favorite roast chicken, and I get it caught in my throat because I cannot believe I have to say good-bye to these people. The decisions that I will make will change their lives and will cause them pain. And I feel them pain, the pain that they feel, and I love these people. How can I do this to them? I'm sorry, you shouldn't have to hear this.
> >> Simon: Maybe I do. No, the life that you have with me will not be the same, we both know that. But it will be a life that we make together.
> >> Lily: I don't want you to try to make a life for me like Holden did. I don't.

FAITH SNYDER WALKS IN.

> >> Lily: Hey, how are you? Oh. Are you okay? Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare? Oh, you did. Oh, you know what? I think I saw all the scary things go out the front door, right, Simon?
> >> Simon: Yeah, that's right, Faith. It was all just a dream.
> >> Lily: I used to think that whatever we dreamed, it could happen. But I think we're creating a nightmare here. We are hurting a lot of people -- a lot of people. And maybe it's just too big a price to pay.

Scene 5:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRAISER

> >> Lily: Do you, in your gut -- I mean, do you really, really think that Katie is pregnant?
> >> Simon: I haven't spoken to the doctor. I haven't seen the results of any pregnancy test so, no, nothing's concrete. But when I got home today and I heard her getting sick in the bathroom, I just couldn't believe that she could be making it up. And when I left tonight, she asked me to get some kind of bizarre pizza. So, she's got cravings, I suppose.
> >> Lily: Cravings, cravings, you can fabricate cravings. She's a very good liar.
> >> Simon: If Katie's pregnant -- do I lose you?
> >> Lily: As I was putting faith back down for her nap I noticed that she -- that her hairline was a little wet, and I thought, "I wonder if she's getting a fever." What if I weren't here?
> >> Simon: Kids are resilient, I know that.
> >> Lily: What about me? What about me? I mean, my relationships with all these people, my children will change so much.
> >> Simon: No, it won't. You will be with them virtually all the time.
> >> Lily: While you're in Canada or somewhere else, or --
> >> Simon: Yes, that's what we planned. I mean, you thought it could work.
> >> Lily: But now there's another baby to consider. I mean, we're destroying two families. Two families now, to get what we want. Maybe this has happened with Katie for a reason.
> >> Simon: What reason?
> >> Lily: Maybe it's life's way of telling us that we have so much stacked against us that we're just not meant to be. And it breaks my heart to say that, but maybe it's true.
> >> Simon: So that's it? You're giving up without really knowing whether Katie's telling the truth or not.
> >> Lily: We have to find out. We have to find out as soon as possible. And I'll be waiting.

[Simon leaves.]
