Scene 1:
Location: Cal Stricklyn's farmhouse.
Scene: Living room.
SIMON FRASIER ALONE.
>> Simon: Yeah, hit a bit of a snag last night, mate. Unexpected visitors ransacked my goods while I was out. Pretty sure I know who did it, too. Yeah, I suppose it was good there was nothing to take. You know, look mate, if lily snyder calls asking about my whereabouts, just -- yeah, yeah, she's the one that you gave the phony reference to. Look, just tell her that I'm touring the american southwest -- arizona, new mexico, whatever. It will at least head her off if she decides to give chase. Yeah, and listen mac, if your wife picks up the phone again, put a muzzle on her, will you? Yeah, sure. All right. Thanks mate. I'll speak to you soon.
Scene 2:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER ON A LAPTOP COMPUTER.
>> Lily: Please let somebody respond to that scan of "beloved."
Scene: Front door..
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT
[ Doorbell rings ]
>> Iva: Hi.
>> Lily: Hi.
>> Iva: I hope you remember I'm headed home today, but I have something that I think might help you with simon.
>> Lily: Shh. Holden took the day off to be with the kids. Is that yours?
>> Iva: No, no, I didn't -- I -- I thought you put it there.
>> Lily: It's my portrait!
>> Iva: What's the matter?
>> Lily: There was a break-in at cal's last night, and somebody went through all of simon's things. Now, all of a sudden, the portrait is finished. What if he's -- what if he panicked? What if he's leaving? I can't let him to do that, I have to stop him!
Scene 3:
Location: Cal Stricklyn's farmhouse.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Hey.
>> Lily: You are leaving. When I saw the portrait by the door, I thought that's what it meant.
>> Simon: Yeah, I'm heading off as soon as I get organized.
>> Lily: Without even saying good-bye?
>> Simon: Look, lily, I thought it would be better this way.
>> Lily: But what about us?
Scene 4:
Location: Cal Stricklyn's farmhouse.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: There can't be any "us," lily, and you know it.
>> Lily: What am I supposed do when I wake up in the morning and I realize I can't see you anymore?
>> Simon: Well, you will remember that you have two great kids, and a husband who really should spend more time with you. It's holden you're missing, isn't it?
>> Lily: Simon, I was only able to tell you last night how much you mean to me. Are you telling me the time we spent at the charity ball, that's it -- that's all the time we're going to have together?
>> Simon: Look -- lily, I will -- I will never forget for the rest of my life, you turning up to my door in that extraordinary gown, like you just stepped from another time. And I really wish I could've joined you there for a while. But, lily, we are not time travelers. We live in the here and the now, and your present involves a husband and two kids.
>> Lily: I don't want to let you go.
>> Simon: Well, you don't have a choice.
>> Lily: Could you -- could you just do me one -- can you just do me one favor? Could you just -- could you just come by the house before you leave? We have to decide where to hang the portrait, right? And could you just say good-bye to luke, please?
>> Simon: All right. Okay, fine. I'll swing by quickly before I head off. I always did have trouble refusing you, lily.
Scene 5:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT
>> Lily: So I got simon to stop by before he leaves. But after that, I don't know --
>> Iva: Are you still pretending to be interested in this guy?
>> Lily: Yes, but don't worry. He just very gallantly kissed me off just now.
>> Iva: Oh, oh, great. At least he has some good instincts.
>> Lily: How am I going to keep him around?
>> Iva: You know, lily, just so you know, holden saw the portrait before he left for the studio, and he wants this guy gone.
>> Lily: We don't have to have him around for very much longer, but I just need to -- you know what I have to do? I have to call those references that he gave me from australia. They may be able to tell me something more about him --
>> Iva: Maybe, maybe.
>> Lily: And also, I put an inquiry on the internet about the picture of "beloved," so hopefully soon I'll have some real answers. I can find out why simon set me up, and what he really wants.
>> Iva: Which reminds me, I talked to elizabeth, and she managed to come up with some pictures of caroline's mother and the aunt, and I asked her to overnight them to me instead of faxing them.
>> Lily: So this is Caroline's mother, right?
>> Iva: Yes, that's Virginia, that's the grandmother that I never knew.
>> Lily: I don't see a resemblance at all.
>> Iva: And this is Vera, Virginia's sister Caroline's aunt.
>> Lily: I think she looks like me.
>> Iva: I can't see it.
>> Lily: Hopefully Simon will.
Scene 6:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT
>> Iva: I don't know. I just wish the picture was a little clearer.
>> Lily: No, look at the resemblance around the mouth, look, and the eyes. No, this woman looks like me, which means she looks like "beloved."
>> Iva: You know, I don't want to burst your bubble, but I think you're seeing what you want to see.
>> Lily: The timing works out perfectly. Both of those women were adults in the '20s, which -- maybe "beloved" was their mother, which makes "beloved" my great great grandmother.
>> Iva: All right, but what could this picture possibly mean to simon?
>> Lily: That is what I have to find out.
SIMON FRAISER ARRIVES.
[Doorbell rings.]
>> Simon: Hi.
>> Lily: Hello.
>> Simon: I'm all packed. I just came to say good-bye.
Scene 7:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Foyer.
LILY WALSH SNYDER, IVA SNYDER BENEDICT, AND SIMON FRASIER.
>> Lily: Come on in!
>> Simon: Iva, it's always a pleasure to see you.
>> Iva: So you're leaving? I'm headed to the airport, you want a ride?
>> Simon: No, no, no, that's okay. Thank you anyway. But I've got my own car, I'm just going to take to the open road.
>> Iva: Oh, which -- which way you headed, there?
>> Lily: You know, luke would love to see you. He's outside, he's playing in the back with the baby-sitter.
>> Simon: Okay, I'll say good-bye to him. Iva, you have a very safe trip. Take care.
>> Iva: Same to you.
>> Simon: Thank you.
>> Lily: That was subtle.
>> Iva: I am trying to stop you from sleeping with that man to get information!
>> Lily: Are you out of your mind?! I would never -- I would forget this entire investigation. I would never do anything to jeopardize my marriage to holden.
>> Iva: Well, you know what? Maybe that's what you should do -- just, you should give it up. Forget the whole thing.
>> Lily: It's very, very late. You have a plane to catch, don't you?
>> Iva: I love you, and I miss you, and it was good to see you, under any circumstances. Okay?
>> Lily: I miss you too. Have a safe trip, all right?
>> Iva: I will. So, I want you to think about what I said.
>> Lily: Okay, I will. I will, I promise.
>> Iva: Bye, bye.
>> Lily: Bye. There's no way I'm giving up.
[Lily turns around to see Simon standing there.]
Scene 7:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: I was thinking maybe I could hang it over the fireplace, take the mirror down -- oh, it really is -- it's really good.
>> Simon: Thank you. Well, you took quite a chance when you allowed me to do it. I'm just so glad it turned out better than the family room.
>> Lily: How come you decided to paint me in my own clothes?
>> Simon: I don't know. I guess I never found that look that really suited you from the photos of your ancestors. But if I'd known you owned that gown that you wore last night, maybe things would have been different.
>> Lily: Maybe we should just stay away from that subject. It's too bad that we didn't try a 1920s look, that might have been interesting.
>> Simon: Well, why do say that?
>> Lily: This photograph that iva dug up. It's -- it's a picture of caroline's aunt vera and the resemblance to me is just amazing.
Scene 7:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER.
>> Simon: The resemblance to you is definitely there.
>> Lily: Iva says she can't see it, you know, the quality of the photograph isn't, isn't that good --
>> Simon: Thank you, thank you! There it is!
