EPISODE #24
APRIL 18, 2000

Scene 1:
LILY WALSH SNYDER, HOLDEN SNYDER, AND SIMON FRASIER.

>> Holden: What's going on here?
>> Lily: We were just talking.
>> Simon: Lily mentioned she was meeting you here. I just offered to escort her.
>> Holden: My wife is capable of getting herself anywhere she needs to go.
>> Simon: I'm sure she is, Holden --
>> Holden: What she doesn't need is some sleaze putting moves on her.
>> Lily: There's an explanation for all of this.
>> Holden: Yeah, he was coming on to you.
>> Lily: Let me explain. I can't keep this a secret anymore. I have to tell you the truth.

Scene 2:
Location: Java Coffee Shop building - downstairs.
Scene: Java Underground - the club.

LILY WALSH SNYDER, HOLDEN SNYDER, AND SIMON FRASIER.

>> Simon: Now, Lily, are you certain you want to do this?
>> Lily: It's time I told Holden everything.

LUCINDA WALSH AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT

>> Lucinda: What was that all about?
>> Iva: Oh, I don't know. Could be anything.
>> Lucinda: Iva, Holden was about to bash the guy in the face.
>> Iva: He was just surprised, that's all.
>> Lucinda: You come clean with me. You're not telling me everything. You're here, you're tete-a-tete with Lily. Why did she come to the party with the australian and not with Holden?
>> Iva: Wait a minute, wait a minute, no, Lucinda, what are you gonna do?
>> Lucinda: I'm just going to have a little conversation with the guy.
>> Iva: Oh, but, you know, I don't think Lily's gonna like it if you get involved in front of all these people.
>> Lucinda: Well, I'm not gonna bash him in the face.
>> Iva: No, I'll go. I'll go and find out. If she gets mad, I live out of town.
>> Lucinda: Fine. But I want a report.
>> Iva: Of course.

IVA SNYDER BENEDICT AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: Look, Iva, I hope you can forgive me.
>> Iva: What have you done?
>> Simon: It seems I've made a bit of a mess of things. You know, if I knew my presence here would have upset Holden so much, I wouldn't have come. But Lily and I, it's very innocent.
>> Iva: Oh, I mean, what else could it be? Obviously Holden misunderstood, and Lily likes and trusts you, so that's good enough for me.
>> Simon: Good, good. You know, I hope this doesn't sound -- sound strange, but I almost feel like I know you.
>> Iva: Why's that?
>> Simon: Since I've been in Oakdale, I've watched Lily do so much research into her family, I find it fascinating, all this lineage stuff.
>> Iva: It is, isn't it? It is.
>> Simon: And I would really, really be interested in hearing more about your side of the family.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND HOLDEN SNYDER

>> Holden: Simon. He should have been gone by now.
>> Lily: I need him to stay.
>> Holden: For what? There's no way he's gonna do another construction project for us. He and that idiot electrician that nearly burned down our house. We'll find another architect.
>> Lily: That's not why I need him to stay.
>> Holden: Well, then, what is it?
>> Lily: It's your birthday.
>> Holden: My birthday?
>> Lily: Your birthday present.
>> Holden: I don't understand.
>> Lily: Simon's an artist.
>> Holden: I thought he was an architect.
>> Lily: Are you going to listen to me?
>> Holden: Okay. Yes.
>> Lily: After I hired him to do the family room, I saw some of his sketches. And I thought, for your birthday, that you might like a portrait of me.
>> Holden: You know that I would love that, but -- you asked Simon to paint the portrait?
>> Lily: It was perfect. He was staying at cal's, he was working on the family room -
>> Holden: And that's what you guys were talking about up there?
>> Lily: I never should have kept that a secret.
>> Holden: A present for me.
>> Lily: I thought it was just going to be this simple little sketch, and then there were all these details, what I was going to wear, the right setting, I just wanted it to be unique for you.
>> Holden: How could it not be? It's you.
>> Lily: So, you'll let Simon stay?
>> Holden: How much more of the portrait does he need to do?
>> Lily: He's not quite done.
>> Holden: I don't like him. I don't like him at all.
>> Lily: Just a few more days, all right? Then he'll be out of our lives forever.
>> Holden: All right, if it's that important to you.
>> Lily: I just need to finish what I've started, and then Simon will be gone. And there will be no loose ends.

IVA SNYDER BENEDICT AND SIMON FRASIER.

>> Simon: Here, let me help you.
>> Iva: Oh, please do.
>> Simon: So, Lily tells me your family lives in washington. That's in the northwest, right?
>> Iva: No, no, no, it's back east. I live in washington, D.C..
>> Simon: Right, right. So, what, lots of politicians and socialites in your family?
>> Iva: No, no. Just a bunch of ordinary folk. How about yourself? What about your family?
>> Simon: Oh, my family --

LUCINDA WALSH INTERRUPTS.

>> Lucinda: What do we care about his family. What -- what are you up to with my daughter?
>> Simon: Absolutely nothing. I -- I did nothing. I think Lily's a remarkable woman.

HOLDEN SNYDER WALKS UP.

>> Holden: Yes, she is a remarkable woman. Lily told me about the portrait.
>> Simon: She did?
>> Holden: Yeah, it's very thoughtful of you to do that. I'm just sorry that by keeping it a secret, we had this little disagreement tonight.
>> Lily: It was nice having you to defend my honor, even though it was unnecessary.
>> Lucinda: Darling, now that you've explained everything to Holden, I hope I'm next.
>> Lily: Later, mother.
>> Holden: Since you won't be staying in Oakdale all that much longer, Simon, I hope that you enjoy this one party.
>> Simon: Thank you. I will.
>> Holden: Well, I have to get back to work, if you'll excuse me.

LUCINDA WALSH, LILY WALSH SNYDER, IVA SNYDER BENEDICT, AND SIMON FRASIER.

>> Lucinda: Is mr. Frasier leaving town soon?
>> Lily: We don't know. We're not quite sure. He will be leaving relatively soon. So we shouldn't occupy all of his time. This is an opportunity for you to meet some new people. So, if you'll excuse us, I'm going to escort him.
>> Simon: Excuse us.

LUCINDA WALSH AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT

>> Iva: So, have you been to the roulette wheel? Played any casino games?
>> Lucinda: Oh? The only games that I'm interested in, I fear, are the games that are being played over there.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER.

>> Simon: So you told him about the portrait?
>> Lily: It was the truth.
>> Simon: A brilliant cover. Lily, now, there's nothing in our way. We can be alone together tonight.
>> Lily: Tonight? I don't know, I don't know.
>> Simon: It will be a night we will remember forever -- "beloved."

Scene 3:

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT

>> Lily: I had to tell Holden something, so I told him about the portrait.
>> Iva: And what about the rest of it? What about the rest of it?
>> Lily: I cannot tell Holden that Simon has a picture of a woman that looks exactly like me, that the letters didn't just end up at the pond. He hates Simon enough as it is.
>> Iva: Okay, and what is he going to say when you tell him that you're pretending to be romantically interested in Simon to get information?
>> Lily: I cannot give up on this, not until I find out what Simon is really after.
>> Iva: All right. You want to know what he's after? He pumping me for information about our lineage.
>> Lily: So that means he's still interested.
>> Iva: But in what, Lily? When I asked him about his family, he changed the subject.
>> Lily: He asked me to go back to cal's with him tonight alone.
>> Iva: Well, you can't do that!
>> Lily: How am I supposed to get out of it?
>> Iva: Tell him you're going to go home with your husband.

HOLDEN SNYDER WALKS UP.

>> Holden (to Lily): Hey there, pretty lady.
>> Iva: Hello.
>> Lily: Hello.
>> Holden: Would you like to dance with me?
>> Lily: Oh, I would love that. I would love that.
>> Holden: Let's go.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND HOLDEN SNYDER

>> Lily: Mm, this is so nice. Being able to snuggle with my husband in public, say our goodnights, and go home and snuggle in prIvate.
>> Holden: Lily, I can't go home with you. I need to stay and help oversee the final woak coverage.
>> Lily: Oh. All right, well, then I'll stay here and wait for you.
>> Holden: I may need to drive Katie home, too.
>> Lily: Why?
>> Holden: She had a breakdown at molly's tonight.
>> Lily: What happened?
>> Holden: She went back to the apartment alone.
>> Lily: Was this the first time that she's been back there since she was attacked?
>> Holden: Yeah, and she was stressed out, I guess. I ended up having to break the door down because she wouldn't answer it.
>> Lily: Was she all right?
>> Holden: She wasn't hurt, but she was pretty hysterical.
>> Lily: Oh, I can imagine. She's not going to stay there tonight, is she?
>> Holden: I'm hoping that she'll go back to margo's. I'm sorry.
>> Lily: I'll be all right.
>> Holden: I'm glad we had a little time to spend together.
>> Lily: Me, too.

[Lily and Holden dance closer.]

[Simon Frasier is watching Lily from afar. Lily sees this over Holden's shoulder.]

Scene 4:

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND IVA SNYDER BENEDICT

>> Iva: You ready?
>> Lily: Yeah. I'm going to let Simon take me.
>> Iva: Take you where?
>> Lily: Home. Home. Just home. If I don't find out what he's up to tonight, I might never find out. So, could you cover me and leave with us?
>> Iva: Just be careful.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Lily: Let's leave now before too many people notice.

Scene 5:
Location: Cal Stricklyn's farmhouse.
Scene: Front doorway.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Lily: I'll get the lights.
>> Simon: No, don't. Wait. You left your husband to be with me tonight. Do you know how that makes me feel?
>> Lily: I wanted us to have some time alone together.
>> Simon: Even if it meant lying to him? I know how difficult that must have been for you.
>> Lily: It's just that we've had so little time together. I still have so many questions, things I don't know about you.
>> Simon: I love looking at you in that gown. It's amazing -- the way it's transformed you.
>> Lily: I've transformed myself into someone that both you and I can't stop thinking about -- "beloved."
>> Simon: No, Lily, no. You are no one but yourself. Only more beautiful version than ever. And now we'll finally have that moment we've both been waiting for. You're trembling.
>> Lily: I'm nervous.
>> Simon: Don't be afraid, Lily. I want to know everything about you, as well.

[Simon brings Lily's face to his, as it appears they will kiss.

Scene: Living room.

[Lily and Simon finally realize that the place has been trashed.]

>> Lily: Oh, what happened?!
>> Simon: I don't know! I don't know! Wait here! Wait here! Well, whoever it is isn't here anymore. They're gone, they're gone! Lily, what are you doing?!
>> Lily: I'm calling the police!
>> Simon: No, no, no, no! No police!

Scene 6:
Location: Cal Stricklyn's farmhouse.
Scene: Living room.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: Lily, hasn't your family been through enough lately? What, with your stepdaughter, and with the stalker dying? Do we really need to bring attention to us being alone here tonight? How is your husband gonna handle that?
>> Lily: This house is filled with expensive equipment, why would they just go through your things?!
>> Simon: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe they thought I was more wealthier than I am. Or that I had something valuable I was traveling with.
>> Lily: What do you mean, "valuable"? What are you talking about?
>> Simon: I don't know. Who knows? Look, Lily, you better go.
>> Lily: No, I'll stay here. I'll stay here and I'll help you clean up.
>> Simon: Please, Lily, I can handle it, okay? I'm so sorry this has ruined our night alone together, but we don't need any more questions for Holden, okay?
>> Lily: Since Holden knows about the portrait already, I'll use it as an excuse to come back -- tomorrow.
>> Simon: Okay, tomorrow.
>> Lily: Tomorrow.

[Simon Frasier closes the door.]
