LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: Lily -- I said luke's asleep. Have you nodded off as well?
>> Lily: Oh, sorry. Sometimes I just get lost in my own thoughts.
>> Simon: That's okay, so do I. Is there anything wrong?
>> Lily: Just the opposite. I was thinking about holden coming home --
>> Simon: Oh, well, that's my cue to bid you a fond farewell.
>> Lily: Not at all. You can be here when holden comes back.
>> Simon: Lily, you have made me feel like family, and that is a great feeling. But intrude on your reunion? No way, I would feel too uncomfortable.
>> Lily: Can we talk for a moment?
>> Simon: What about?
>> Lily: About the portrait. Now that you've agreed to finish it, we should set a timetable for our sittings, shouldn't we?
>> Simon: Now? Look, it's pretty late --
>> Lily: Exactly. It's quiet. Peace and quiet. Come on! Have a drink, we'll relax and we can go over our game plan.
>> Simon: That is very tempting -- it is so tempting. But look, I'm exhausted, I should get some rest. How about we take a rain check.
>> Lily: How about I just get you one drink, hmm?
>> Simon: Look, that's very kind, Lily.

>> Simon: Look, I think I better go.

Scene: Foyer.

>> Holden: Oh, no -- I want to be clear about how this fire started.
>> Lily: Well, according to the firemen, it was the electrician's fault. Some wiring, bad wiring they used in the renovation. Some overloading some circuits, right, simon?
>> Simon: Yes. Faulty wiring, that's what they said.
>> Holden: No fault of yours, of course.
>> Simon: Well, as architect, I do hold myself responsible for every aspect of the project, including the workers I hired.
>> Holden: Well, I want to talk to the electrician, get his side of the story.
>> Simon: Your insurance adjusters, I'm sure, have seen to that. But look, holden, I couldn't agree more. I think a thorough investigation is in order.
>> Holden: Yeah, that's right. Starting right now. I wanna go take a look at the room, see how bad the damage is.
>> Simon: I'd like to hear what you find.
>> Holden: Oh, you will, 'cause you're coming with me.
>> Abigail: If you guys don't mind, I'm just gonna take my stuff --
>> Lily: I'm sorry, abigail. I wanted to hear about your trip.
>> Abigail: Oh, you have other things to worry about.
>> Lily: We'll talk later, all right?

LILY WALSH SNYDER, HOLDEN SNYDER, AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: Look, holden, as much as I would like to stay and survey the damage, I'm exhausted. I suffered burns in the fire, and I'm still on pain medication.
>> Holden: Well, that's -- that's too bad. But I really need you with me, to point out where that faulty wiring was located.
>> Simon: Sure, in the morning, I'd be more than happy to.
>> Holden: No, I'd rather do it now! It won't take that long.
>> Simon: Fine. Lily? You want to join us?
>> Lily: You're the expert in construction. Why don't you go ahead without me? I'm gonna see if Abigail needs help unpacking.
>> Holden: Okay, all right. Just -- just leave this right here, okay? It'll be fine. Let's go, come on.
[Lily unhides the photograph and heads for Simon's pack on the foyer table, but then thinks again.]

LILY WALSH SNYDER, HOLDEN SNYDER, AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Lily: Well, what do you think?
>> Holden: That we were lucky the damage was confined to one room. Insurance should cover most of it.
>> Simon: Still, I wish there was some way I could make it up to the --
>> Holden: There is, there is. You can move out.
>> Simon: Well, I've already told lily I'll be leaving --
>> Holden: Good.
>> Simon: -- As soon as possible.

MISS ABIGAIL WILLIAMS WALKS UP.

>> Abigail: Holden.
>> Holden: What is it?
>> Abigail: I was supposed to remind you to call Katie when we got home.
>> Holden: I'm glad you remembered. All right. I'll make this quick.
>> Lily: Oh, that's all right. Take your time.
>> Holden: Simon. It's been real.

LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER

>> Simon: I guess I won't be using holden as a reference anytime soon.
>> Lily: Oh, he'll calm down. He's just very protective of his family.
>> Simon: Well, I don't blame him. He has a beautiful one. Well, I better make myself scarce before he returns.
>> Lily: I'm sorry that I left you to holden, but if I'd stuck up for you anymore, he would have gotten even angrier.
>> Simon: Lily, I understand. I mean, your main priority is to keep the peace in the family. Which is why I really should leave town right away.
>> Lily: But what about the portrait?
>> Simon: Lily, there is no point in even attempting to continue the portrait under these circumstances.
>> Lily: You're absolutely wrong! It's very important that you finish the portrait now. >> Simon: How's that?
>> Lily: Because -- once holden sees the priceless gift that you've created for him, he will understand why I have been backing you all this time.
>> Simon: Look, lily, I'm really not so sure about that.
>> Lily: I will take care of holden! You just concentrate on the portrait.
>> Simon: Lily --
>> Lily: You promised. After everything we've been through, you wouldn't break a promise to me, would you?
>> Simon: I hate the idea, but --
>> Lily: Okay, then I'll see you in the morning. Okay? Good night, simon.
