Scene 1:
Place: Oakdale, Illinois

Scene: Living room.

[Phone ringing.]
>> Simon: I've searched everywhere! I've got to find that picture before Lily does. All right, start at the beginning.
[Simon hears Lily and lays back down on the sofa.]
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Oh, I'm sorry. I hope the phone didn't wake you up.
>> Simon: No, no, no. I had to get up anyway. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to sleep later. Don't want to keep you and the kids up all night, as I roam the halls.
>> Lily: About that -- about you staying here at the house, I mean.
>> Simon: Oh. Would you prefer it if I move back to cal's?
>> Lily: If you're feeling better. I'm not trying to push you out of here. That was Holden on the phone.
>> Simon: Oh, great. Is he still enjoying paris?
>> Lily: He was calling from the plane, actually. He's coming home tonight.
Scene 2:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Okay, then, I'll move my things straight out of the guest room and back to cal's. But I might just pop upstairs and say good night to Luke.
>> Lily: Luke's sleeping. Simon, I know what you're up to.
>> Simon: Yeah, what's that?
>> Lily: You're not going to say good night to Luke. You're going to say good-bye and sneak off before morning.
>> Simon: Well, you caught me.
>> Lily: Simon, how am I ever, ever going to find a new birthday present for Holden?
>> Simon: I'm sure you'll manage.
>> Lily: Don't go. At least stay until Holden comes home.
>> Simon: That's exactly what I was trying to avoid.
>> Lily: He wants -- he's gonna want to thank you for rescuing me from the fire and trying to save those old family photographs.
>> Simon: What, are you kidding me? He's gonna want to give me a knuckle sandwich for putting and the kids in such danger, for being so stupid as to let that electrician foul up the wiring.
>> Lily: Well, I'm grateful. And I do appreciate you sticking around to reassure Luke while Holden was away.
>> Simon: You know, that's the least I could do. Anyway, look, it's been great, but, you know, I've gotta be on my way.
>> Lily: How can you do that? You can't even pick up your own bag.
LUKE GRIMALDI ENTERS THE ROOM.
>> Luke: Mommy, who was on the phone?
>> Lily: It was daddy. He's coming home tonight.
>> Luke: Can I wait up for daddy and abigail?
>> Lily: Sure, you can. But you know what you do? Sit down here and play quietly while mommy talks to Simon. Isn't there anything I can do to convince you to stay?
>> Simon: Look, asking is enough to convince me, okay? So, be a pal, don't ask.
>> Lily: So, where will you head to next?
[Camera begins to zoom in on Luke looking at the black and white Victorian Lily photo on the floor.]
>> Simon: I don't know. Maybe I'll take abigail's suggestion and venture out towards the southwest. I mean, the architecture in arizona and new mexico is amazing.
>> Lily: You'll have to write.
>> Simon: Once I can.
>> Lily: As soon as you can. And you have to send pictures.
>> Luke: Mommy --
Scene 3:

Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER, LUKE GRIMALDI, AND SIMON FRASIER.
>> Lily: At least before you leave, get an okay from dr. Stewart.
>> Simon: Look, I'll be fine. Will you stop worrying about me?
>> Lily: I just can picture you in some strange city. I hope you don't get complications with your hands.
>> Luke: Mommy, I've made a present for daddy.
>> Lily: That's great. I'll be there in a minute. Look, when you decide where you're gonna end up, I can find you a decent doctor somewhere.
>> Luke: Come look.
>> Lily: I'll be there in a second. I'm just talking to Simon. And my mother, she knows a lot of people, so I'm sure she'd be able to hook you up somewhere. Okay?
>> Luke: Come look!
>> Lily: Oh, I told you to stay there and play quietly. Maybe I should take you back to bed.
>> Luke: I want to wait up for daddy and abigail.
>> Lily: How about you go back to sleep and then when daddy and abigail get home, I promise I'll send them in and give you a big kiss.
>> Luke: Then they can see the picture of you in the funny clothes.
>> Lily: Funny clothes? Did you draw a picture of me in funny clothes?
>> Luke: No, I didn't draw it.
>> Lily: Then, you're saying that I look funny? Well, maybe I should take you shopping next time I go out. I'll be right back.
>> Simon: You take your time.
>> Lily: Excuse me.
>> Simon: Good night, Luke.
[Simon gets the photo off of the floor after they leave.]
Scene 4:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Is that the picture that Luke was talking about?
>> Simon: Yeah, it was an idea I knocked off earlier for the portrait. I completely forgot about it. Luke must've found it and obviously liked it.
>> Lily: Don't go.
>> Simon: Lily, I've gotta go. I really have to.
>> Lily: What are you gonna do, leave me high and dry? Portraitless?
>> Simon: Look, Lily, I just happen to be an architect who can paint. I'm sure you can find a top portrait artist to do your painting for you.
>> Lily: One who could do this? Of the hundreds of portrait painters out there, not one of them has seen the pictures of my ancestors. And now -- and now they're gone.
>> Simon: Oh, great, stick the knife in and twist it, why don't you?
>> Lily: And it's too late for me to get a birthday present for Holden that he will love as much as that portrait.
>> Simon: You know, I'm betting that he won't love me being here, especially after he sees the burnt-out room.
>> Lily: Do you really want to go?
>> Simon: It's time.
>> Lily: Is it? Of all those portrait painters out there, not one of them is my friend.
>> Simon: Look, this hasn't worked out the way either of us planned. You know, I never meant to burn down that room.
>> Lily: I wish you would stop blaming yourself for that.
>> Simon: No, you don't. Because I was about to say I'd like to make amends .
>> Lily: By staying? Well, then, you feel guilty anytime you want to.
>> Simon: All right. Okay, I will stay for just a couple of days, only to finish the portrait. But after that, I've gotta go.
Scene 5:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Well, since I'm the last person Holden wants to see after a transatlantic flight, I'll take my leave.
>> Lily: Okay, I'll see you in the morning. Be careful. Be very, very careful.
>> Simon: I'm all right. I'm fine.
>> Lily: Hey, Luke. What are you doing up again?
>> Luke: Can Simon tuck me in?
>> Simon: Maybe you should wait for your daddy for that, Luke.
>> Lily: If Simon tucks you in, do you promise that you will go back to sleep? Yeah, okay. Please. Please.
>> Simon: All right, buddy. Come on, let's get you some shut-eye. Hop on.
>> Lily: Careful.
[Lily goes to put the sketch into Simon's bag. She finds the black and white photo of
a Victorian style Lily.]
[Lily flips it over and on it is handwritten, "To Simon - Beloved"
