EPISODE # 17
APRIL 5, 2000
Scene 1:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
SIMON FRASIER ALONE.
[Simon is wearing a fancy dark robe and white gloves, to protect his burned hands.]
>> Simon: That bloody diamond. I've made a stinking mess and it's not even here.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER.
[Lily walks into the room.]
>> Lily: Simon?
>> Simon: Hey, Lily.
>> Lily: What's this I hear that you're refusing to take your pain medication?
>> Simon: Ah, you know, pain killers, who needs them.
>> Lily: What are you trying to prove?
>> Simon: Nothing. Nothing, I'm just -- I'm healing fine without them. Look. See?
>> Lily: Oh, what I see is a man in pain, who needs his pain medication. Take the pill.
>> Simon: No, no, no. Toss away those pills, Lily, and send away the nurse because I'm well enough to pack.
>> Lily: You don't mean you're leaving.
>> Simon: Yeah. I mean, why should I stay? I can't paint your portrait in this sorry state. I mean, I have reduced your family room and your irreplaceable photos to cinders. I have brought nothing but destruction and disappointment into your life.
>> Lily: Nothing could be further from the truth.
Scene 2:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: You haven't ruined my life, Simon. In fact, the opposite. You've given me a much-needed breath of fresh air.
>> Simon: Yeah, and to prove it, you've got an entire room reduced to cinders.
>> Lily: Look -- before you came into my life, my life was taking care of children and waiting for Holden to come home from the station. And that was fine. But I didn't have anything in my life that was just mine. Not until you convinced me to find those old family photographs. I don't regret a single thing. I am grateful for every moment I got to spend looking at their faces, memorizing their smiles, their eyes, the faces of my family. If I hadn't found your great-grandfather's letters, I would've spent my entire life never having seen those photographs. At least now I have the memories.
>> Simon: I know. I know. And you've told me all that, Lily, and it is very, very generous. But it doesn't take away from the fact that I still hate having you wait on me.
>> Lily: I know what this is about.
>> Simon: You do?
>> Lily: I know more about you than you think.
Scene 3:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: I know how much your great-grandfather's letters mean to you. The way he lived his life, longing after his lost love. I think you would like to right that wrong.
>> Simon: You know, I think it's far too late for that.
>> Lily: For your great-grandfather and his beloved, yes. But I think that's what drives you. You like to solve things. I need a new room, you have the talent. I need a portrait painted, and like a miracle, you're an amazing artist.
>> Simon: No, no, no -- it's not that at all.
>> Lily: I'm reckless, I go back into my home trying to rescue those photographs -- and you run into a burning house. And you saved my life. I don't know if you are my guardian angel here on earth or what, but I am very grateful to have met you.
>> Simon: You so wouldn't be saying that if you knew me better.
>> Lily: I'm trying to get to know you better. That's why I want you to stay.
>> Simon: And that's why I better clear out, Lily, before I completely shatter all your illusions. Now, I'm going to leave as soon as I can make arrangements.
LILY WALSH SNYDER, LUKE, AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Luke: You can't leave!
>> Lily: Oh, honey, everything's going to be all right.
>> Luke: What if we have another fire?
>> Lily: Well, we won't. We won't have another fire, I promise. Simon, he's -- he's got to move on, he's got things -- can you just stay for a few more days, just until Holden gets back?
>> Simon: Lily, no. No, I've got to be on my way.
>> Lily: You can be brave a few more days, can't you?
>> Simon: Yeah, sure you can. I mean, as your mom said, you know, I've got other things to attend to.
>> Lily: We understand, don't we? Come on. Come on, Luke. Let's leave Simon with a little peace and quiet, so he can yell and scream if he wants to.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Please, please reconsider. Please.
Scene 4:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: I stopped by cal's - to pick up a few of your things.
>> Simon: You know, you really shouldn't have.
>> Lily: I thought you might need something to keep your mind off yourself. You need to keep your fingers moving, so you don't lose flexibility in your hands.
>> Simon: Oh, you know, perhaps you're right. You know, maybe a sketch or two. See how much damage is really done.
>> Lily: I would love to stick around, if you don't mind, to keep you company.
>> Simon: Hey, not at all. Why don't I sketch my favorite subject? So -- ow. Take a seat. Yeah, sit down there. Head up. And -- there's a beautiful light over here, put your eyes this way, towards the light. Perfect.
Scene 5:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
[Lily is sitting for the portrait that Simon is drawing of her.]
>> Lily: How are your hands feeling?
>> Simon: You know, as usual, you're right. Sketching's much better therapy than squeezing that old rubber ball.
>> Lily: The sooner you get back to your routine, the better.
>> Simon: What about you?
>> Lily: What about me?
>> Simon: Well, what's next for you and the family room?
>> Lily: I'll -- I'll postpone that for a few months. We've lived without a family room for this long, we can wait a little longer.
LUKE WALKS IN.
>> Lily: Hey, hey.
>> Simon: Hey, hey. Hold on, big fellow.
>> Lily: Slow down, big guy! What are you looking -- what are you looking for? Oh, dear, okay. I guess you know what you wanted.
>> Simon: A book.
>> Luke: Read me a story?
>> Simon: Good enough time toake a break.
>> Lily: Okay, we'll take a break. You want some juice?
>> Luke: Yeah.
>> Lily: Okay, would you like some juice?
>> Simon: Yeah, I'd love some, thank you.
>> Lily: Don't move a muscle. We'll be right back. Come on.
SIMON FRASIER ALONE.
[Simon tries to search through the wicker basket, but his bandanged hands are slowing him down.]
>> Simon: Where is it?
Scene 6:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: I had a bit of an accident.
>> Lily: Are you all right?
>> Simon: Yeah, I tripped over her things --
>> Lily: Oh, okay.
>> Simon: I'm fine, I'm fine.
>> Lily: All right, well, here's your drink. The straw is courtesy of Luke.
>> Simon: Ah, terrific. Thanks, mate. Hey, I tell you what, buddy, why don't I read this book for you?
>> Lily: Oh, I think you're gonna lose out to the robots
>> Simon: Hey, I remember this one.
>> Lily: That is the favorite. You want me to help you with the pages?
>> Simon: No, no, I'm fine.
>> Lily: Oh, you're doing very well. That's great. Hey.
>> Simon: It takes me back.
>> Lily: Hey, Luke, whatcha got there? Got your robots. Maybe our architect-in-residence can help you play with them later, hmm? Simon? Simon?
>> Simon: Sorry.
>> Lily: I thought I lost you there for a minute.
>> Simon: You know, I was actually thinking out leaving and all, but I'll tell you what -- if it really helps little guy feel more secure, maybe I will stick around for a bit longer. At least until Holden returns from paris.
>> Luke: Yea!
>> Lily: Thank you.
Scene 6:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LUKE AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: You know, you are an excellent artist, Luke. This is definitely my favorite.
LILY WALSH SNYDER, LUKE, AND SIMON FRASIER.
>> Simon: A library that includes a play area and a petting zoo.
>> Lily: See?
>> Simon: You're a genius.
>> Lily: See, you've inspired us all.
>> Simon: I won't point out that you're still waiting on me.
>> Lily: I'm gonna do that until your hands get better. Just call me florence nightingale. Right, Luke?
>> Luke: Right.
>> Simon: Well, all things considered, I do feel very fortunate. Thanks, flo.
>> Lily: I think we're all very lucky. You show up at my door and here I think you're just an architect who's gonna do me a favor and it turns out that you're a very special friend.
Scene 7:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER, LUKE, AND A RESTING SIMON FRASIER.
>> Lily: Hey, Luke, come on. Let's let Simon rest. You want a snack?
>> Luke: Yeah.
>> Lily: Come on. Let's go.
>> Luke: I'm glad Simon is staying.
>> Lily: Me, too.
>> Luke: I hope he stays a long, long time.
>> Lily: Wouldn't that be fantastic? Come on, let's go, in the kitchen.
[Lily Walsh Snyder and Luke leave the room.]
SIMON FRASIER ALONE.
[Simon opens his eyes when he is sure they have left the room.]
[Simon rummages through the wicker basket, hampered by his burned wrapped hands.]
>> Simon: Where is that bloody photograph?
[Black and white victorian Lily photo is partially hidden under some things on the floor, unbeknownst to Simon.]
>> Simon: I will find it if I have to rip this place apart.
