LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Oh, you're up.
>> Simon: Hey. Thanks. Yeah, I was hoping today would be a little better.
>> Lily: What, getting released today isn't enough?
>> Simon: Yeah, I suppose so, yes.
>> Lily: Here, let me help you. Here. Your prognosis is better today.
>> Simon: There's no point hanging around here. If only I could dress myself. Are those for me?
>> Lily: Yes.
>> Simon: Thank you. From your garden bed?
>> Lily: They were growing behind the construction site. And the firemen kept some of them standing, so I rescued them, like you rescued me. Do you remember what you said to me last night?
>> Simon: No. We had a conversation here? Look, I was completely out of it.
>> Lily: You were on painkillers, I know that, but you seemed very coherent.
>> Simon: Thanks. Did I embarrass myself?
>> Lily: I hope not. You called me beloved. And you asked me to forgive you for everything. Do you know why you said that?
>> Simon: Look, I can't remember saying anything. But I do think I know what I meant.
>> Lily: Simon, what is it?
>> Simon: Lily, I was talking about the fire. It started because of me.
Scene 2:
Location: Oakdale Memorial Hospital.
Scene: Simon Frasier's hospital room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Lily: Why would you say that the fire was your fault? It was bad wiring.
>> Simon: Because I okayed the job.
>> Lily: But I talked to the firemen. They said it was the electrician's fault.
>> Simon: I should've examined their work properly, you know? I don't know, paid more attention.
>> Lily: If you were distracted, it was because of me.
>> Simon: Don't be ridiculous, Lily, please.
>> Lily: You were doing my portrait, you were sifting through old family photographs.
>> Simon: Which now are gone. And your entire new room is in shambles.
>> Lily: Yes, I'm upset that -- I'm disappointed that the photographs are gone.
>> Simon: Of course, you should be.
>> Lily: Because I'm an adopted child, you know? For the first time in my life, I felt like I had a place in the world, in my family.
>> Simon: Then why the flowers? The kind words?
>> Lily: I know -- I know why you said, "Beloved."
>> Simon: It's because -- I was completely out of my head.
>> Lily: You were thinking about your great-grandfather's letters, weren't you?
>> Simon: Look, if I'd lost those bloody letters, you wouldn't have met me and you'd still have the pictures.
>> Lily: If I had never met you, I never would have been motivated to find those photographs. They'd still be in an attic somewhere. You know, it's not how long I got to look at those pictures, it's the fact that I got to look at them at all.
>> Simon: That's very considerate, Lily, but --
>> Lily: I mean it. Because of you, I've glimpsed my past. I got to see where I came from. I will never forget those faces. Don't you see? Don't you get it? I owe you so much, Simon.
Scene 3:
Location: Oakdale Memorial Hospital.
Scene: Simon Frasier's hospital room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: You know this is too much.
>> Lily: Oh, please. I do eight, nine pairs of shoes a day between Luke and Faith. Velcro, snaps, laces -- I can do anything.
>> Simon: Yeah, but I hate this.
>> Lily: Macho? Be macho, fine. But you know what? You're going to need help until your hands get better.
>> Simon: You know, I should've left weeks ago, Lily, before I made a complete mess of your life.
>> Lily: No, no, no, no. You saved my life. You've given me so much more.
>> Simon: What? What, a burnt-out room? Photograph ashes? An unfinished portrait? And when Holden returns, he'll be furious.
>> Lily: He'll understand.
>> Simon: I wouldn't if you were -- I'm sorry, Lily. I'm really sorry, but I'm leaving today.
>> Lily: What are you talking about? I don't want to say this to you, but you can't even tie your shoes. You can't pick up a duffel bag, you can't drive a car.
>> Simon: I'll manage somehow, okay? I'll be fine.
>> Lily: You can't. You're going to need somebody's help until your hands heal, until the bandages are taken off.
>> Simon: I don't think Holden would appreciate it --
>> Lily: I will talk to Holden. Please. Please stay and let me help you. Please just do it for Luke.
>> Simon: Luke's fine,Lily.
>> Lily: No, Luke doesn't know that you're fine. And he was so scared with the fire. He had so many questions about you before he went to bed. Please come back to my house and let him see for himself that you're okay.
>> Simon: All right. Only for Luke. And only for a moment.
>> Lily: I got it.
>> Simon: You are very persistent.
>> Lily: It's still early. I plan on talking you into staying around for awhile.
>> Simon: Thank you.
Scene 4:

LILY WALSH SNYDER, LUKE, AND SIMON FRASIER.
>> Simon: So, you'll be my assistant still, right, buddy? Just until we sort everything out, okay?
>> Luke: What do I do?
>> Simon: What do you do? Well, there's going to be a clean-up crew. So, I want you to supervise them and report back to me. It's a very important job. You think you can handle it?
>> Luke: Do your hands hurt?
>> Simon: No, not really. I've just gotta keep them under wraps for awhile, you know? Like a boxer.
>> Lily: Don't wake up Faith, she's taking a nap.
>> Lucinda: You have a charming manner with little boys, Mr. Frasier.
>> Simon: Oh, thank you. Luke's a great kid. I should be going now.
>> Lily: What are you talking about, Simon? Come on, you can't do anything on your own. Stay here.
>> Lucinda: Here, dear?
>> Simon: No, no, no.
>> Lily: Luke would love it.
>> Simon: No, I really shouldn't impose. I should --
>> Lily: I'll hire a nurse if that'll make you feel comfortable.
>> Simon: You are not going to go to that expense.
>> Lily: Simon, I can afford it. Don't worry about it.
>> Lucinda: If the man wants to go --
>> Lily: Please stay, please? At least for a couple of days.
>> Simon: All right, all right. Just until my hands improve a little bit, and then I'll go. Hey, hey!
>> Luke: Come see the family room I built with blocks.
>> Simon: The family room you built with blocks? [Laughter.]
>> Simon: All righty.
>> Lucinda: Oh, pussycat, have you completely lost your mind?
Scene5:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LUCINDA WALSH AND LILY WALSH SNYDER
>> Lucinda: Well, dear, we'd all like to go scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef with an Aussie architect, but to invite him into your home with your children and your husband's away? Wives have been put away for less than that.
>> Lily: I owe him, mother.
>> Lucinda: How do you figure that ex actly?
>> Lily: He's an artist. He burned his hands -- the tools that he works with. He was trying to save my family photographs.
>> Lucinda: Darling, I mean -- there wouldn't have been a fire if had a competent architect here in the first place.
>> Lily: I'm not changing my mind. The fire was not his fault. His getting hurt was my fault.
>> Lucinda: Does Holden --
>> Lily: He went back into the house, because I went on and on about those photographs.
>> Lucinda: I want to know, does Holden -- is he aware that you're going to play Florence Nightingale to Mr. Frasier?
>> Lily: No. And don't even think about calling him.
>> Lucinda: Don't you think that he ought to be at least informed?
>> Lily: I called him in Paris at the hotel. I left a message about -- I didn't want to say anything about the fire. I didn't want him to worry.
>> Lucinda: Okay, all right. Anyway, what could he do from Paris? Not much, but, dear, inviting this unknown man into your home, into your inner sanctum.
>> Lily: I don't see simon that way. Not after last night.
>> Lucinda: Honey, enlighten me, please.
>> Lily: Everything's changed. He saved my life. I can't simply let him walk out of it.
Scene6:
Location: Lily Walsh Snyder's mansion.
Scene: Living room.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: I'm making such a mess of this.
>> Lily: Oh, let me help you. You know, maybe a bowl of soup with a straw would have been easier.
>> Simon: Days of soft food? Are you kidding? No way. Look, I've roamed the outback. I think I can handle a -- ow -- a simple sandwich somehow.
HOLDEN SNYDER CALLS LILY WALSH SNYDER.
[Phone rings.]
>> Lily: Excuse me. Hello? Holden. Hey. How's Paris? Abigail's with her parents right now? How's the weather? And the food? Oh, I'm so jealous. Yeah, everything's okay. There was a small incident. Yeah, there was a little fire in the family room. No, don't -- you don't have to come back. Everything's fine. It was very minimal damage.ú I'm telling you, everything's under control. Don't rush back. I'll see you when you get home. I miss you, too.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: You didn't tell him how serious it could've been.
>> Lily: Then he would've hopped on a plane and abigail's trip would have been ruined.
>> Simon: Right. Is that why you didn't tell him I was staying here?
>> Lily: I -- I didn't want him to --
>> Simon: To worry. Lily, I don't want you lying to your husband on my account.
>> Lily: I didn't lie. I told him enough to be informed without telling him enough to be worried.
>> Simon: All right. I won't debate the p int, but I won't cause you any trouble anymore. I'll be gone by the time Holden returns.
