Scene 1:
Place: Deserted island off of the North Carolina coast - Atlantic Ocean.
Location: Cooley's Hut.
CELIA FRAISER AND SIMON FRAISER
>> Simon: So, remind me again. Which one of us is the home-wrecker?
>> Celia: Well, if it isn't Lord of the Flies. What do you want with me now?
>> Simon: Here, enjoy.
>> Celia: What's that supposed to be?
>> Simon: Dinner, genius.
>> Celia: Oh, you banish me to the other side of the island, now you want to feed me?
>> Simon: Yeah, well, it's either that or let you starve to death. Now, I've got to tell you, that option is very tempting, but it's no
way to die.
>> Celia: You know, I believe there's a part of you that must really be enjoying being stranded here in the middle of nowhere,
because that's when jacks of all trades and masters of none really get to stretch their muscles. Now you feel reliable,
resourceful and honorable. You are the ruler of your little kingdom.
>> Simon: Yeah, Celia, whatever.
>> Celia: Oh, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Please, please, come back. Do you know what else I think? I think the last thing
you want is to get off this island. You want to know why I think that? Because you're madly in love with your island
princess.
Scene 2:
Location: Cooley's Hut.
SIMON FRASIER AND CELIA FRASIER
>> Simon: You'd better cut back on that juice, Celia. You never know what's in that.
>> Celia: Oh, but I do. This is Vino Veritas, the truth serum.
>> Simon: Yeah, yeah, I'd say more like hallucinations and island madness, just to add to your own.
>> Celia: So, what heading would you and Lily's little liaison come under? Would that be "island madness," or has that been
going on long enough to be called love?
>> Simon: Sober up, Celia.
>> Celia: No, it's just that I really have seen the way you look at her. You look like a starving man salivating over the rack of
lamb. I guess that's probably natural. Two peas in a pod, very familiar.
>> Simon: Look, Lily was just a means to an end. I needed her to lead me to my diamond.
>> Celia: But you've kept her long after her usefulness, particularly according to that diamond. Yeah. So, is she everything
you've ever wanted? Does she make your dreary life complete?
>> Simon: Know what I long for, Celia -- apart from seeing you disappear, of course? I long for a thick, juicy steak, and an ice
cold beer.
>> Celia: Yeah. I would be having a meal like that right at this very moment if it weren't for your little Lily. Instead, I'm stuck here
in this hell hole with you, my simpleton brother, and his wench.
>> Simon: Poor Celia. Why does everything always have to happen to you?
>> Celia: I really don't know.
>> Simon: All right, let's make a deal. You shut up and behave, and maybe we'll find some refuge back in the cave.
>> Celia: I think I would rather have a tribe of pygmies chew my flesh off my bones.
>> Simon: Fine, suit yourself.
>> Celia: Wait! Simon! Wait, don't go! Don't go! Don't go. Please, please, please, don't go. Don't go. Don't go. Don't forget
this!
[Celia laughing.]
>> Celia: You can practice your kisses on that cold fish until the cold fish you're sleeping with decides to give in to her basic
instincts. That's if she has any. Go ahead, leave me like everybody else does.
[Celia sobbing.]
>> Celia: Oh, for a pair of rubber gloves. All right, all right. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Right, Celia? Right, Celia.
That means that this shell-sucking hermit must have something of use somewhere in this place!
Scene 3:
Location: The cave.
SIMON FRASIER AND LILY WALSH SNYDER
>> Simon: Lily, you'll never guess what --
[Lily dreaming.]
>> Lily: Oh, I missed you so much. I love you. (kisses Simon, still dreaming) I love you.
Scene 4:
Location: The cave.
SIMON FRASIER AND LILY WALSH SNYDER
>> Simon: Evening, sunshine.
>> Lily: Oh. Oh. I had the weirdest dream. It seemed so real. Why are you looking at me like that?
>> Simon: What, you think it's a lot of fun just sitting around here waiting forever for you to wake up?
>> Lily: Why did you want me to wake up?
>> Simon: Because I have a surprise for you.
>> Lily: Unless it's an outboard motor or the National Guard, I'm not interested.
>> Simon: Fine, then. I guess I'll just have to enjoy these all to myself.
>> Lily: What is it? Let me see.
>> Simon: No, no, no. Hey, hey -- a little patience, self-control. Close your eyes.
>> Lily: What?
>> Simon: Come on, do you want to see these or not? Close your eyes.
>> Lily: Okay, okay.
>> Simon: All right -- feast your eyes.
[Lily gasps.]
>> Lily: Corn? Corn? Where -- if I'm dreaming, please don't wake me up.
>> Simon: Nope.
>> Lily: Corn. I've never been so happy to see a vegetable in my entire life. Oh, it smells like home. It's amazing. Where'd you
find it?
>> Simon: I took a walk off the beaten track, and right in the middle of some very thick vegetation --
>> Lily: Oh, you don't mind? Do I -- should I just start?
>> Simon: No, knock yourself out. Go for it.
>> Lily: Well, teamwork, teamwork, let's go. Come on. What should we do?
Scene 5:
Location: The cave.
LILY WALSH SNYDER AND SIMON FRASIER
>> Simon: Lily, I want to get off this island just as badly as you do, believe me. If I saw a ship on the horizon, I would probably
swim halfway out to meet it. We've been, we've been searching the sky and the sea for weeks. It's time to face facts. We've
just got to do what we have to to survive.
>> Lily: I hate you.
>> Simon: I know.
>> Lily: Just all this talk about planting seeds, watching the currents. It sounds like something Holden would do. Sorry.
>> Simon: Apology accepted. You know right now, I would rather think about eating this corn. You know what we need? A
really big stick of butter and a HUGE shaker of salt.
>> Lily: We used to have the most amazing picnics out at the Snyder farm with the whole family. Holden would take all the corn,
put them on the coals until they were cooked just right.
>> Simon: My dad used to grill them on the barbecue, douse them in pepper and all the homemade butter you could
stand.
>> Lily: And the juices just drip down your chin --
>> Simon: And you thought life couldn't get any sweeter.
>> Lily: Why isn't it getting easier? It just gets harder and harder every single day. I'm obsessing about going home, I'm having
dreams about it -- wondering what it would be like to be home and be around the people that love me.
>> Simon: A few more months of that, Lily, and you are going to drive yourself mad.
>> Lily: I'm halfway there already. You know what they say, though -- idle hands, idle minds. So, have you thought about what
I said earlier?
>> Simon: And what was that?
>> Lily: About the raft. Look, I know --
>> Simon: No, no, no, no -- no, we can't.
>> Lily: I know we talked about the currents, but could you at least give it a try?
>> Simon: Look, I'll take you up to the bluffs, you can check the currents out for yourself.
>> Lily: But currents change --
>> Simon: All right.
>> Lily: Come on, Simon, we have to do something.
>> Simon: It's too dangerous, Lily.
>> Lily: Do we have to -- just to give us a little hope, please. Just -- just say you'll try. Please.
>> Simon: All right, fine. Fine. We'll do it.
>> Lily: Thank you. I feel better already.
>> Simon: You know, I guess risking our lives on the high seas can't be any more dangerous than staying here with Celia.
